At the time there were denials from the Neely camp. Richard Marks adamantly stated that Bonnie Neely had gotten in bed with Richard Salzman. Getting re-elected was more important to her than anything else... As a guest-writer this week's Town Dandy, Eric Kirk proves Richard Marks was right on the money...
excerpt: ...Transcendence be damned. Nuances notwithstanding, most politics can be reduced to stereotypes of liberalism vs. conservatism. When I moved to Humboldt County in the ’90s, the ideological lines of the North Coast were clear and pronounced. Fresh on the heels of Redwood Summer, none of the politics surprised me. Rallies at Stafford. Tree sits. Pepper spray. “U.S. out of Humboldt County.” Wal-Mart. Marijuana. It all culminated in 2002 with the first election of Paul Gallegos as District Attorney, revealing progressive politics as a burgeoning force countywide, as conservatives dug in for a siege.
But the siege never came, and politics have never been the same.
At first the lines held strong. Bonnie Neely, longtime Republican pol and wife of the vanquished D.A. Terry Farmer, jumped all over Gallegos in the aftermath of the initial filing of the Palco suit. “You’re all alone,” she told him coldly at a meeting stacked by Palco employees who had circled the Courthouse in a demonstration with images reminiscent of the Chilean truckers strike, circa 1972 — as the Board voted to decline Gallegos leave to farm the case out to private counsel.
But then came the recall. Robin Arkley, Sr., ponied up five grand to prime the Palco cash pump. But then Arkley, Jr., no raving liberal, trumped him with 12 g’s to oppose the recall. Palco and its parent Maxxam threw down $85K for a campaign that went down in a thud with numbers so convincing that one has to assume at least a portion of the “old guard” had broken solidarity. Conservatives, who had not voted for Gallegos, and would not vote for him in the subsequent election, didn’t like recalls, or perhaps distrusted Palco more than they despised the upstart.
A minor, and perhaps fleeting, shift. But it didn’t end there.
Three years later Bonnie Neely embraced Gallegos at his reelection party. She also celebrated her own victory taking her to a runoff election with a fellow Republican, beating out the lone Democrat with the blessing of local Democratic Party activists. She was deemed the “liberal” candidate. In that same election moderate Republican Virginia Bass was elected Mayor of Eureka with the help of a progressive activist campaign manager (who had opposed Wal-Mart) on a de facto slate opposite Neely’s coalition, in which Neely informally caucused with unmistakable liberals like Larry Glass and Chris Kerrigan....
Let's not forget, only a short time ago, this is what Eric's camp was saying about Neely:

Also: Looking back... One thing you do have to admit, Eric (and all of your "proggggrressive" camp - now that every single court that has touched Gallegos'/Ken Miller's wretched PL suit has tossed it for lack of merit, after the 1st Distrcit Court of Appeals laughed at Gallegos' arguments, after the Supreme Court refused his requests... you have to admit that the Board of Supervisors did the right thing in recognizing it for what it was, a piece of shit...
Re-electing Bonnie was the only way to keep Nancy Arkley Flemming off the California Coastal Commission.
ReplyDeleteIt's a far cry from this:

9:43 is evidently a one issue pony who can’t even get the one issue correct. This was good hype that was spun in order for Bon Bon to hold onto her “power” and keep feeding off of the public trough.
ReplyDeleteFact - the coastal commission is made up of many members and not having Neely wouldn’t have mattered for shit.
Fact - Neely doesn’t give a shit about anybody or anything except for herself and keeping herself on the public coffers. She threw her own husband under the bus and will change sides on the board in a nanosecond to avoid being in a 3-2 minority. Look for it. You will NEVER see her in a 3-2 minority vote. She will change her position to avoid it even if that means turning her back on the people that she has made back room deals with.
But her days are numbered. She can only pull this crap for so long before it all starts unraveling. And it is has already begun.
Um, If you are the swing vote you will always be in the majority, no matter what you vote.
ReplyDeleteAlso, some were against Neely because she was replacing Woolley, who is fairly popular.
Neely the swing vote - in your dreams...
ReplyDeleteThat is so ridiculous I am stunned by it.
If you're buddy-buddy with Hank, you can get anything kind of hack analysis published as long as it's "Progressive". Eric is so convinced this "Progressive" new wave of political immigrants come to tear Humboldt County politics apart is a good thing he forgets he's just another damn carpetbagger exploiting social differences as per Big City politics. These pols that come from other cities never understand rural county community because where they come from there's no such thing. There's only affinity groups in a sea of such that comprises Big City life so Eric and other Prog's are quite used to Big City politics of divide and conquer, a political agenda that never recognizes community because "community" has been long gone from such places.
ReplyDeleteSo here in Humboldt County we have these waves of Big City pols coming in to make names for themselves and to take over control from the dumb locals. But with hacks at the helm coming in with their slash-and-burn back-stabbing total hypocrisy and sleazeball ethics as Prog m.o. politics as usual in their political baggage as Eric so amply epitomizes, Progs just may have a chance to ruin still another area, softening it up for its future crime wave following the Progressives, e.g. Arcata and SoHum..
For a real look at the real bon bon in the morning - first thing, no makeup - go over to the Humboldt Mirror, photos on top, top line, 4th from the left.....
ReplyDeleteI wonder if she can spell "dick face?"
"will change sides on the board in a nanosecond to avoid being in a 3-2 minority. Look for it. You will NEVER see her in a 3-2 minority vote."
ReplyDeleteYou do the math. Anyone who is on the 3 side can change and still be in the majority. Being subject to change sides in that situation, which is what you implied, makes you as swing vote.
Once Rodoni officially looses in November, the board will be stacked with you so-called progressive foes
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy yourselves
Word is they are actively seeking an Ork to run against Polly Endert. A "progressive." To cement the "progressive" majority...
ReplyDeleteNice, Larry. Nice, Eric.
WTF does that MEAN anyway? Someone who'll do what they're told, that is really the only thing I can think of.
Otherwise, that is a non-partisan position to serve THE PEOPLE OF EUREKA - NOT THE PROGGRESSIVE BULLSHIT PARTY.
Why should she run opposed if some of her constituents don't like the job she's doing?
ReplyDeletethey don't see it that way---- they are on a holy crusade,don't-cha=know---- and we all know how fucked up the crusades ended.
ReplyDeleteI don't really follow Eureka's accomplishments all that much - so what has Polly Endert done - or not done - to offend the "pro-gres-sives?"
ReplyDeleteRefuse to sign her name in blood at the wane of the moon?
Attend a performance at the Arkley Theatre>
Forget to bring cupcakes to the bake sale?
This is the flip side of the worst stereotype of the John Birch Society. And you're buying it?
Why would she have to do something to offend anyone? Is there's an individual who viewed themselves as capable of doing a much better job at running things than why shouldn't they run against her, with support of like minded individuals?
ReplyDeleteYeah. You're right mresquan, If an individual viewed themselves as doing a better job of running things...
ReplyDeleteAnd Polly has really messed up by...?
....doesn't matter. If someone thinks they can do a better job,and others agree with that, then they should run and let the voters decide.
ReplyDeleteAll sounds good, mresquan, and under normal circumstances I would be in complete agreement. You and I both know that these are not normal circumstances, and you have had some pretty deep exposure to exactly what I am talking about.
ReplyDeleteYou know at least two people who had the guts to stand up as themselves. Those people should be applauded.
In regards to Polly,I'd say it would be a I guess "normal circumstance" as I don't know that she's done much to per se offend anyone on either side.As a matter of fact,Larry has plenty of good things to say about her.

OUPS here's one - funny what it is too - if Bon is so Prog how come she voted AGAINST this?
Humboldt Board of Supervisors Nov. 14 2000 Item J 2. Subject: Proposed Medical Marijuana Ordinance (Supervisor Woolley)
Action: Adopt the recommended program by a unanimous vote. By a 3-2 vote with Supervisors Neely and Kirk dissenting.

Fact - ... She threw her own husband under the bus ...
Terry "left" her because of his MS she misses him very much, but Terry's "ego" won't let him 'burden her' with his 'broken body'. Its the same BS you see a lot of guys go threw when they get sick and become what they see as 'less then a man.'
They leave their wives, and go off to live alone. Terry is teaching at 2 colleges now and working for the AG's office. He HATES his MS and is dealing with it well in every other way, expcet where it comes to Bon, he won't have her taking care of him, or seeing him this way as little as possable. Terry 'left her' between the MS and the loss to Gag's was too much for him to handle and still live here. To bad because he was a great guy and a great asset to Humboldt and a loving husband. Some people are like that they just can't take sickness (it DOES SUCK for sure - and a lot of shame and pain and "I'm less then a man" goes with it for sure. I know that feeling (sorry to say). But I wouldn't leave my lady, just because I am ill - I just know that I'd take care of her the same way she takes care of me.
But its hard sometimes when your used to being a 'take charge' / 'hard charger' to be on your back or in a wheel chair with your lady pulling it out of the back of the car or van for you. It is hard - I tell you I know to watch that. Terry couldn't take it that's all.
That's cold, but its how it is. I love and respect him both, and I don't know how I'd be if I had to face a slowly degenritive disorder like MS ie what Terry's dealing with. Mine is "live or die in 6 months" (cancer) so I've got a time line on it - beat it or ... (chuckle) so I know my wife and kid won't be pushing me around in a wheel chair for very long, one way or another ....
Terry on the other hand is facing YEARS of just getting worst. So he moved to Sac area ... Bon didn't toss him under the bus. He left her 'for a better job' ... its really sad.
3:22 a.m. go back to bed and get some sleep. You evidently don't know squat about the topic and have attempted writing your own version (quite badly) of what happened.
ReplyDeleteBonnie tossed him under the bus because he wasn't good for her changed career. Period. All that really know both, know the story. She is a cold heartless witch who will eventually have to deal with her cruelty and dishonesty. The woman changes her mind like her socks. The political climate is different so in order to continue feeding off of the public, she changes her support.
The idea that you would spin this to Terry left her is disgusting. And the fact that you are trying to "save" her by spreading this lie is simply lower than low.
by the way - her the earlier post on her anti-pot stance was done before she realized that the political climate changed. Now, she falsely touts environmentalism - not because she believes in it, but because she thinks it is the new religion and by doing so she can then mislead the public into allowing her continued employment with government. The woman flat out has no morals, scruples nor the ability to tell the truth.
I checked in with Heraldo to see if the ban's against me posting there is still in effect and it is, but the topic of fundraising blues should remind Rose that "Heraldo" is the child of Bob Martel and Ken Miller's Humboldt Watershed Council. Bob used phone banking fundraising scams just like all these other fundraisers do.
