The political ping-pong ball

Kerrigan’s largest donors were hardware store owner Bill Pierson, who gave his campaign committee $2,000 this period, and former pot doc/environmental activist Ken Miller, who gave $1,850.

No special interests at work here, nosireebob, uh uh, no way, no how.

Both Kerrigan and LaTour are running because somebody is pissed off about the General Plan being re-examined.

Remember: As the General Plan was being wrapped up, the following passage was discovered, tucked into the County of Humboldt Climate Action Plan (CAPE) which is an Appendix U to the Draft EIR for our local General Plan Update, and may be included as a background document for the Energy Element of the General Plan:
"B. Family Planning
(Big Brother*) The County should support the notion that every woman and every couple should have the resources and the power to control their own reproductive lives. By ensuring that every child in the County is planned, the County will make significant progress toward solving unnecessary increases in local contributions to global warming impacts. The County Public Health Department should implement a program to address the potential of unplanned pregnancies which unnecessarily add to future population increases, which in turn add to further greenhouse gas emissions due to addition(al?) consumption.."
I submit that the people who are pissed off about the re-examination of the General Plan are either ignorant of this fact, or are worried that their other Easter Eggs will be discovered. And they want a chance to put it back in.

NOW - You can ask Ms. LaTour what she thinks about this. As a pastor, it will be very informative to hear what she thinks about government encouraging abortion, and acting like China. Ask Chris Kerrigan, too. Better yet - ask them what Bill Pierson thinks. And Ken Miller the pot doc.

But here's the real question - the General Plan is slated to be FINISHED by December, BEFORE either one would be seated if elected. IF they do get elected, are we to expect that the WHOLE damn process begins again? So they can reinsert that passage, or worse?

The Lovelace/Pierson/Faust/Miller/Kerrigan/LaTour camp created this game of political ping-pong. We should be glad someone stepped in to clean up the mess, and will pass it without crap like that added in there.

Easter Eggs** in the General Plan

For those (cough "liberaljon"***) who do not understand why the General Plan is being re-examined with a fine-toothed comb... consider the following:

General Plan appendix draws fire; planning department error causes some to question process - Thadeus Greenson/The Times-Standard 5/22/2012
”This language is inappropriate in a planning document,” (Martha) Spencer wrote. “Planning staff used a template borrowed from another jurisdiction that contained this section. This section should have been deleted during the editing of the document prior to release.”

...In an e-mail sent to Eureka City Manager David Tyson and Community Development Director Rob Wall as an “FYI,” North Coast Home Builders Advocate Julie Williams hinted the paragraph's discovery implies other problems.

”What else is in the plan or the (draft environmental impact report) hidden somewhere in a section that was not discussed during a public hearing because no one found it prior to the commission's vote?”

** Definition of Easter Eggs, for Jon:

*** I told Jon to do his homework before blathering on about something he knows nothing about, but I know he'll never find this on his own, thus it is posted here. Peace Be With You, Jon.

NOW - You can ask ◼ Ms. LaTour what she thinks about this. (Ask Chris Kerrigan, too)

I submit that the people who are pissed off about the re-examination of the General Plan are either ignorant of this fact, or are worried that their other Easter Eggs will be discovered.

I, for one, applaud the current Board of Supervisors (four of them anyway) and the Planning Commissioners who have recognized the problem and are conducting the tedious search to ensure that this BS does not fly.

And, then we have the Eco-News, they're obviously one of the supporters of the fascistic Orwellian Easter Eggs, and they don't like those pesky Supervisors who won't go along with the Eco-Eugenics Program:

More Of What Lovelace Hath Wrought

Spooky goings on with the county Planning Commission - Dave Meserve/My Word/Times-Standard

Yeah. You know, it's too bad they found that section talking about govt. 'discouraging' women from having babies tucked in to the dang plan. (because. Global. Warming. Or Something.) If that hadn't happened they never would have known that they better go over it with a fine-toothed comb.

Can't blame them for being worried about all those oh-so-politically-correct Orwellian terms, though. I mean, none of us want to end up living 1984, do we, Dave? Not even you. Or maybe, especially you.

What Lovelace Hath Wrought: Continued

Lovelace Says General Plan Update Process Now ‘Completely Corrupt’ - Ryan Burns/Lost Coast Outpost

Humboldt County Supervisor Mark Lovelace is outraged over the latest turns in the tortuous saga of the county’s general plan update. Specifically, as he wrote in a Facebook post yesterday, he feels the process has devolved into
“… a stacked Planning Commission with its own agenda holding endless meetings with no clear process or direction and little public notice. Their meetings have been marked by numerous Brown Act violations and significant cost over-runs, and the process keeps changing from one meeting to the next. We finally have the completely corrupt General Plan Update process we’ve been accused of having all along.”

There's more, lot more, at the link, but the shorter version is, "I didn't get my way, my guys aren't winning, and this isn't any fun anymore."

Remember, It was Mark Lovelace, and his cavalcade of trained seals, who pushed for the Board of Supervisors to act - to, in one day, with virtually NO NOTICE, strip every property owner in the county of their property rights.

In his zeal to destroy Palco, Lovelace did the impossible. It wasn't what he intended. He awakened the mythical, proverbial sleeping giant.

Property owners of all sizes, stripes and ideologies woke up and came together. The Southern Humboldt homesteader to the builders and 'developers,' little old couples and up and coming 20-somethings - in a wave that hadn't been seen since Tom Conlon's attempt to criminalize homebuilders.

They realized they had been asleep, and they vowed, no more. They were going to stand up for their rights, and they were going to use the very same tactics Lovelace & Co. employed so successfully.

And given that Mark Lovelace's latest appointment to the Planning Commission is an EPIC guy, you better be darn glad they did.

(Mark claims) that the Planning Commission deleted trails from the plan when they combined it into another section. He further claims being outraged by how the Commission reduced setbacks from creeks and wetlands when they actually recommended that the California Department of Fish and Wildlife determine the appropriate determination of setbacks, which is their role and responsibility.

Interesting piece on HumCPR

HumCPR Rising: How Lee Ulansey and his corporation moved from advocacy into county government - Ryan Burns/the Journal

Funny how there was never any teeth-gnashing about Lovelace's crew marching in lockstep - and, the push to make the BOS, in one day, with virtually no notice, and little public input, strip every property owner of their rights, collateral damage in the zeal to kill Palco.

And, btw - there's a comment at the Journal site by 'Rose' - a nasty comment directed at Steven Lewis. It's not me, but I bet I could tag who it is. And it's pretty childish to keep using my name.

The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors today directed Humboldt County Community Services Director Kirk Girard to to work on improving his department, including investigating possible staffing and structural changes.

Humboldt supervisors direct Girard to work on improvements - TS

...The direction was a result of Girard's employee performance evaluation, which was completed in closed session today after being continued from a meeting in September.

Girard said he'll be working with Humboldt County Administrative Officer Phillip Smith-Hanes to come up with ideas on how to improve his department and make it more efficient.

”(We'll be working on plans) that would deal with some of the issues about how our department performs, such as permitting and communication to the public,” Girard said....
