And so their names live online, to be unearthed whenever they apply for a job. Sometimes the searches that lead people here are for other reasons, but it usually has to do with a job search.

And, so it is that Allan Dollison appears here. His time with the DA's office has come and gone, he rose through Gallegos' ranks, and was slated, some said, to become Assistant DA. He was a loyal player, and, I believe, a true believer.

Through my work here, I am often kept informed about cases, how they're handled, how the various Deputy DA's do their job, interact with victims, and so forth.

And I feel it necessary to say this. I have come to the conclusion, that, for all his past mistake, Allan Dollison turned out to be one of the best and most honest of the bunch, far surpassing his boss, Paul Gallegos.

He has since left the DA's office, and, as is often the case when people leave, I get the chance to talk to them. I have talked with Allan Dollison. And, to his credit, he never once asked me to remove any of this info, as damaging as it is to him. I respect that, and I think it's noteworthy.

FIVE GRAND apiece. For what? w/update

Who is PETROLIA resident Ester Saunoras, and why is she giving $5,000 to Larry Glass and $5,000 to Nan Abrams in their bids for EUREKA City Council?

The same Ester Saunoras who gave at least $2,000 to Local Solutions, and (with Richard Cogswell) gave $7,000 to Paul Gallegos last time around. R.B. Cogswell gave Gallegos $10,035 during the Recall.

Almost Thirty Grand in all.

TS - Last call for money
TS - DA candidates bring big dollars to county race
Local Solutions' 460 Campaign Statements
ER - Campaign finance statements filed for District Attorney candidates
ER - Candidates disclose finances
ER - Bear River official discusses financial contributions from tribe

UPDATE: Reports coming in indicate that NEITHER ESTER SAUNORAS nor RICHARD COGSWELL are REGISTERED TO VOTE IN HUMBOLDT COUNTY.

I just have one question (NOTATION ADDED)

"As part of one case Dollison was handling, he agreed to file a motion to set aside a default that had been entered against his client. After not responding to his client’s inquiries, Dollison told her he had filed a motion that was denied by the court. He provided a copy of the motion, a notice of ruling which stated an attorney had appeared on behalf of the other party.

In fact, Dollison never filed a motion, there was no hearing, he fabricated the notice of ruling and forged signatures on documents he sent to the client. His misrepresentations were acts of moral turpitude.

He never refunded his fee.

Isn't that, like, STEALING?

And, ok, more than one question... if it is STEALING, how is this guy supposed to have any credibility as a prosecutor?

And another question - are prosecutors held to a higher standard than, say, defense attorneys?

More exposure w/update

This story in the Arcata Eye is really incredible, as it also appears to expose more behind the scenes machinations, and shows what can happen when one person speaks up and puts a stop to it.

Humboldt Dems endorse an incumbent Dem for Arcata council - despite Green opponent's lobbying
Oct. 17, 2006
Kevin L. Hoover Eye Editor

EUREKA – The Humboldt County Democratic Central Committee (HCDCC) last week endorsed Arcata City Councilmember Mark Wheetley’s reelection bid.

The endorsement came after of Arcata resident Rick Greene raised questions about the committee’s endorsement of a single Democrat, Alex Stillman, in September. Greene and other Democrats had expressed concern after City Council candidate Dave Meserve, a Green Party member, addressed the HCDCC in June asking that it endorse a single candidate for the Arcata council. The committee subsequently made the sole Stillman endorsement.

Suspicions of some sort of unseemly arrangement were fueled by the subsequent endorsement of Meserve by activist group Local Solutions Political Action Committee, of which HCDCC Chair Patrick Riggs is a member.

Appearing at last week’s HCDCC meeting, Greene questioned why a well-regarded incumbent Democrat wasn’t endorsed by the committee.

“The simple reason is that no member of the committee made a motion,” Riggs told Greene.

Greene responded by citing Wheetley’s endorsement by Supervisor John Woolley, State Sen. Wes Chesbro and Rep. Mike Thompson. “I find it rather odd that my Democratic Commitee, which endorsed Mark in March of 2005. has not come up for consideration.” Greene said. He further questioned why “members of this commitee” – referring to Riggs – were working for the election of non-Democrats. “I believe if you’re a Democrat, you’re a Democrat, and you work for your party’s candidate,” Greene said.

Sheryl Esparza, a voting member representing Arcata, then made the motion to endorse Wheetley.

“Mark has an extensive background in natural resources, is a critical thinker, a consensus builder and a family man,” she said. “He’s a progressive Democrat with a common sense approach to taking care of business in Arcata and has done a good job on the council thus far. We deserve to have him working for Arcata.”

Barbara Carolan, also representing Arcata, seconded the motion. She said failure to endorse Wheeetley would be “a tacit endorsement of Mr. Meserve.”

Humboldt County Supervisor John Woolley, though not a committeemember, was allowed to speak in favor of the endorsement.

Milt Boyd spoke “reluctantly” against Wheetley’s endorsement, saying HCDCC by-laws prevent endorsement of only two candidates. He said it would be “somewhat divisive” to endorse Wheetley since Michael Winkler, whom he supports, is a “strong candidate.”

After more discussion, Wheetley was endorsed by voice vote without any nays.

“I was disappointed that the Dems endorsed Mark Wheetley, but I’m proud to have the endorsements of Patrick Riggs and Chris Beresford and many other Democrats,” Meserve later said.

Riggs didn’t respond to requests for comment.

maybe a protest at liles' home would be in order
after all, it was liles that brought the message of death to the washington school neighborhood
maybe the protesters should go to liles' neighborhood to bring their message.
also... the liles' neighbors should be made aware that a person with certain instabilities is in their nighborhood... a person who owns weapons and isn't afraid to use them if he' "scared".
a person who has killed two of our citizens within the last 6 months.
would YOU want to live next door to a murderer????

The anti-cop agenda

Exposing the NEW good-old-boys network

I hope you all take time to read all the way through Hank Sim's cover story in the North Coast Journal this week.

I almost didn't. I got part way through it and came to the mention of the "shadow group" Humboldt Business Council" and slammed my fist on the table.

Goddam it! No discussion of the so-called "Eureka Coalition for Jobs" or the so-called "Humboldt Business Council" is complete WITHOUT TALKING ABOUT THE SO-CALLED "ALLIANCE FOR ETHICAL BUSINESS", "LOCAL SOLUTIONS", AND ALL THE OTHER MORPHS OF SALZMAN -CONTROLLED "ACTION COMMITTEES"!

But LUCKILY I kept reading. Because Hank, for the first time, lays it out and EXPOSES the behind-the-scenes machinations that have influenced recent elections and are in play in the Eureka City Council races, the Eureka Mayor's race, and in the Supervisor's race.

Those who have been with me since the beginning of this whole thing know that the primary thing I asked was that BOTH SIDES of the story be told. Give the people all the information, and let them make an informed choice, but for God's sake tell them who is involved and what they are up to.

And Hank has done it.

Excerpt: "It's that the new boss, if it comes to that, is simply the flip side of the old boss. That point -- that La Vallee, Glass, Kuhnel and Abrams represent a new good-old-boys network, a nascent left-to-left-of-center political machine -- is just a little bit harder to explain away.
You can start with the basics. Their campaigns are coordinated; they all work together. They've all endorsed each other. To one degree or another, they've all cautiously expressed their skepticism of the Arkleys' Marina Center project for the Balloon Track, or disapproval at the city process that led us to this juncture. (Glass is the exception, perhaps -- he helped form a group, Citizens for Real Economic Growth, or CREG, that has been loudly critical of the Marina Center plan, though the candidate himself has tempered his public stance somewhat.) They've all been endorsed by the same lefty groups -- Local Solutions, the Humboldt County Democratic Central Committee, the Eureka Greens. They have all been generously funded by Bill Pierson, owner of Pierson Building Center and therefore a man who would stand to lose considerably if the Marina Center, with its Home Depot big-box anchor store, comes to pass. (As has Supervisor Bonnie Neely, who is also up for reelection and has received a similar set of endorsements; her challenger, former Eureka Mayor Nancy Flemming, is likewise associated with the ticket headed by Bass. See "Supes On," the Journal's May 18 cover story, for a rundown of the candidates.)

Finally, there's the fact that Richard Salzman, the Trinidad political consultant and sworn enemy of Arkley, has played a large role in shaping the ticket. Salzman personally recruited Nan Abrams to run against Mike Jones in the Fifth Ward, as Abrams herself verified last week. La Vallee's campaign hired him this year. He works with Glass in the CREG effort, and, according to Glass, helped to remind Maria Hershey, a potential vote-splitter in the First Ward, to drop out of the race by deadline. Before Ron Kuhnel officially announced his candidacy for the Third Ward, Salzman approached Randall Herzon, another potential candidate, and asked him to drop out. Herzon eventually accepted Salzman's logic -- that a divided vote would ensure that Jeff Leonard would be reelected -- but is still galled that Salzman would pressure him to withdraw. (In the absence of the thoroughly sensible proposal to adopt instant runoff voting, or at least a return to citywide primaries, such pre-election machinations are perhaps inevitable.)

What does all this signify? It's not that the candidates in question are slavishly loyal to Salzman, or even to Pierson. "You don't run for city office without getting calls from Richard Salzman," said Ron Kuhnel last week, and as he said it he looked genuinely weary of such calls. He keeps his campaign apparatus separate from that of Glass and Abrams, even if he does cooperate with them, because of his discomfort at being thought of as a member of a "slate." But turnabout is fair play, and people who accuse Bass, Wolford, Leonard and Jones of being mere tools of Rob Arkley should be prepared to answer similar charges against their own candidates."

Read the whole story. And pass it on to everyone you know. It's good information, across the board. Both sides.

What're we talkin' about here? (NOTATION ADDED)

Moral Turpitude

n. Gross violation of standards of moral conduct, or vileness, such that an act was intentionally evil, making the act a crime. The existence of moral turpitude, as used in criminal proceedings, can bring a more severe charge or penalty for a criminal defendant.

n. A criminal behaviour that gravely infringes on the moral sentiments of the community. It is classified as a malum in se type of crime. Examples include murder, larceny and aggravated assault. Such a finding can lead to deportation in the United States, one of many collateral consequences of criminal charges.

n. Conduct done knowingly contrary to justice, honesty or good morals.

Moral turpitude is “conduct that is inherently based, vile, or depraved, and contrary to the accepted rules of morality and the duties between persons or to society in general” (Jordan v. De George, 341 U.S. 223, 229, 71 S. Ct. 703, reh’g denied, 341 U.S. 956, 71 S. Ct. 1011 (1951).

Consequences of Moral Turpitude

Behaviour that falls under the definition of moral turpitude can result in the removal of persons in a position of legal authority.

According to the Immigration and Nationality Act, Sec 212 [8 U.S.C. 1182], an individual may be deemed inadmissible to the United States if they were found to have committed a Crime Involving Moral Turpitude (CIMT). Inadmissibility may be overcome by obtaining a Waiver of Inadmissibility. Examples of CIMTs include assaults (aggravated, with a weapon, or with intent to cause bodily harm), fraud, theft, break and enter (dwelling house), prostitution.

State Bar Association
Allan Lee Dollison - #177299
http://members.calbar.ca.gov/search/member_detail.aspx?x=177299

August 26, 2000
ALLAN LEE DOLLISON [#177299], 34, of Saipan was suspended for one year, stayed, placed on two years of probation with an actual 60-day suspension and until he makes restitution and proves his rehabilitation, and was ordered to take the MPRE within one year and comply with rule 955. The order took effect Aug. 26, 2000.

Dollison stipulated to 16 counts of misconduct in four consolidated cases: three counts each of failing to perform legal services competently or respond to client inquiries and improperly withdrawing from representation, and two counts each of failing to return client files, refund unearned fees and cooperate with the bar’s investigation.

As part of one case Dollison was handling, he agreed to file a motion to set aside a default that had been entered against his client.

He vacated his office and did not notify clients or the courts, he failed to appear at hearings and failed to follow court orders. Two cases were dismissed as a result of failure to prosecute. One client’s wages were garnished to pay a default judgment, and other clients were forced to hire new counsel to complete their bankruptcy petition.

In mitigation, Dollison started a solo practice soon after his admission to the bar, but due to a lack of experience and business acumen, he accepted difficult cases for relatively low fees. He abandoned several matters when he moved to a new office in order to stabilize his practice. He also suffered from depression and is under the care of a psychiatrist.

Following posts that contradicted denials that "Local Solutions" had anything to do with Richard Salzman, Michael Twombly disappeared, and "Local Solutions" disappeared. All e-mails coming from their listserve started coming from "Redwood Progressive," AKA Richard Salzman.

"Local Solutions, the liberal political action committee, has so far given nothing to any candidates in this election cycle.

Has the money just dried up? Or is it now being funneled into Salzman's "CREG," "Redwood Progressive," or the latest, "Eureka Civic Association."

“I don’t know yet. I would have to get more information,” said DA Paul Gallegos. “You might want to report it to the Arcata Police Department if you think it is a crime.”

EUREKA – Measure T, passed by Humboldt County voters in June, prohibits non-local corporations from contributing to “all elections within the jurisdiction of Humboldt County.” The ban includes non-profit organizations, and requires a fine in the amount of 10 times the contribution for violators.

The Sacramento-based California Dental Association (CDA) gave the Citizens for Healthy Teeth – Vote No On Measure W committee $5,000 on Sept. 18, and the donation was accepted. Was that a violation of Measure T, and does the CDA owe Humboldt a $50,000 fine?

No, say Measure T backers and Arcata’s city attorney.

Backers of Measure W, which would eliminate fluoridation of Arcata’s water, had contacted county officials and the news media last week over the matter.

Measure T proponent Katlin Sopoci-Belknap said her understanding from legal sources was that municipal law overrides county law. But she said enforcement would be up to the district attorney.

“I don’t know yet. I would have to get more information,” said DA Paul Gallegos. “You might want to report it to the Arcata Police Department if you think it is a crime.”

City Attorney Nancy Diamond was more definitive. “Measure T doesn’t apply to the City,” she said. “It was a county initiative.”

Connie Stewart, both a Measure W opponent and Measure T backer, said the No on W committee wouldn’t have accepted the contribution if it were a violation.

“County measures do not apply within city limits,” she said. “We did our due diligence.”

***
And speaking of Measure T - Is the Times Standard, a non-local corporation, acting in violation of Measure T when it endorses candidates?

According to this Opinion, "Measure T does not differentiate between large and small or profit and nonprofit corporations in Humboldt County. The Times-Standard is not a “local” corporation, so none of the political opinions expressed herein nor any rebuttal would be allowed."

Well, I guess “You might want to report it" to EPD "if you think it is a crime.”

Salzman's hatchetman strikes again

Salzman's hatchetman Bob Ornelas comes out of his hole with this little missive.

Is this the same Bob Ornelas who used to routinely berate and belittle and humiliate members of the public, the staff, and fellow council members at Arcata City Council meetings?

The same Bob Ornelas who voted against allowing a preschool to build a new facility saying he was "suspicious of their motives." and then turned around and proposed the City put in an Eco-Hostel on their site?

The same Bob Ornelas who as a SITTING City Councilman/Mayor of Arcata was waving around a $1,000 BRIBE, looking for reporters to do a hit piece on a sitting County Supervisor, the same Roger Rodoni he vilifies today?

The same Bob Ornelas who at first denied his involvement in that little debacle, and then called it a "grant." Salzman denied any involvement, of course.

The same Bob Ornelas, who, again acting as Salzman's mouthpiece, went on the radio, introducing the "Dump Geist" plan, while the "Dump Geist" bumperstickers were being printed and then mailed out in plain brown wrappers in a "Eureka Coalition for Jobs" like stratagem... the same bumper stickers that Salzman claimed he "didn't pay for."

Ornelas' latest letter to the editor is not available online:
"Where's the outrage regarding Supervisor Rodoni's bombast towards the always gracious Supervisor Wooley's attempt to comply with the law and bring Native American representation to the county's transportation board?
Rodoni's racism, thuggery, and sexual prejudice are obvious with regards to this incident, and he owes Wooley a very public apology.
And, while he's at it, he should be making amends to the very people who have suffered the most from a legacy of redneckism that continues to plague our community.
The native people's of the county deserve full representation at every level of government and can ill afford to tolerate the kind of isolation that Rodoni proposes to perpetuate with his arrogance, pomposity and platitudes.
I served on the HCAOG Board for years and have experienced Rodoni's stingy, self-righteous neo-conservatism first hand, and I think he should have been replaced years ago.
At the very least Rodoni needs an enema.
Bob Ornelas

So many questions. Who wrote this one for Bob? There seems to be some familiar themes.

And Bob - Gee, I thought the tribes were already represented by Tribal Council, a County Supervisor, a State Assemblyman, a State Senator, a U.S. Congressman a U.S. Senator and a President... not to mention they are a Sovereign Nation... do they really deserve more than we all get?

You found the "racism" angle worked for you last time, now you just want to try it again? Once again seeking to use the Tribes for your own ends? Fomenting distrust and ill-will seems to be your specialty.

Should Paul Gallegos recuse himself?

Should Paul Gallegos recuse himself in the Cheri Moore case?

Just sad.

After Ken Miller Moore's son files claim against city

Before Ken Miller Cheri Moore's son speaks out

Guess that answers the question...
"If a suit is filed, it will further buttress local doctor Ken Miller's second career -- third career? -- as a midwife of politically charged litigation. Miller was the one who brought the now-dormant Headwaters lawsuit to the office of District Attorney Paul Gallegos. Cunningham said that Miller had been working with Kaupp on the potential Moore lawsuit."

More: Just sad.

More dirty tricks?

More dirty tricks? For what purpose?
BALLOON TRACK OPINIONS POLLED

"...the surveyors claimed to be from the Times-Standard newspaper, Clark said.
They wouldn’t reveal their names, she added.
Times-Standard publisher David Lippman said that the newspaper has not hired anyone to do a survey.
“We’ve had employees, who’ve certainly been asking people,” he said. “We have reporters who are constantly out asking people their opinions.”
He added, “If anyone other than a Times-Standard reporter asked their opinion, then I don’t know who they are.”

"Citizens For Real Economic Growth spokesperson Larry Evans said that he is not aware of any business-to-business survey being conducted on behalf of CREG."

Hmmm. Reminds me of this:

"There have been rumors Gallegos supporters are launching a community fund-raising effort to fund the Palco suit. Gallegos and his staff say while they are open to such a proposal, they're not aware such a fund exists." ..."Salzman says he's heard some talk of a community fund, but he's not involved in that effort." April 30, 2004 Times Standard Front page story by James Tressler."
Salzman's Plan

And of course, Gallegos' camp denied any participation in Julie Francis' PUSH POLL conducted during the last election.

Keep your eye on the ball...

Imagine you are sent into a new community with an assignment that requires effecting political change. How would you do it? You don't have alot of time, you don't know anyone in the community, you have very little assets to work with...

What you have to do requires the support of local politicians who didn't know you from Adam.

Suppose that you came in, volunteered on their campaigns, made yourself invaluable.

Let's say you took a look at the political landscape, and see that certain candidates in a race are more likely to be supportive of your agenda than others, so you volunteer to help the one who appears most favorable. It's a seat-of-the-pants plan, figure it out as you go, seize the opportunities as they arise...

As you work to get people elected, they introduce you to others in the community, to the people behind the scenes, to the power brokers, to the movers and shakers, and to the people with money.

You work hard to ingratiate yourself with them. You learn your way around, who's who, what works and what doesn't. Maybe you even have a team that came with you. Your willingness to get the gruntwork done, along with energy and enthusiasm that is the most exciting thing on the political scene in years pays off. You are welcomed, and crowned a kingmaker.

Your political capital grows.

Nobody asks why you are doing this, if you have an agenda. Any idle questions are easily turned away with a bland answer. No one looks deeper. People turn their eyes idly away and go back to their lives.

Their disinterest and apathy frustrates you, though, too, you need them to stay committed, while they are tired of the game.

You have to keep them motivated.

So you stir the pot constantly, you latch onto any cause celeb that arises. Along the way, more and more politicians are indebted to you.

The plan works to a degree, but there are problems... You realize that some of your candidates are unsuccessful because they lack experience and expertise. Along the way, you find that some of the politicians you have helped have minds of their own, won't do what you tell them to do. And some of your successfully placed candidates require constant babysitting.

You realize that you still need a majority vote. Your goal is not as easy to realize as you thought.

But you are patient. You set up a another plan to fill the pipeline with your people, to start them in lesser positions, like school boards, and community water boards, knowing that you can groom them to run for the higher office, and they will have a resume to boost them along.

You tap into community groups, pump them up, help them organize, telling them how great they are, never revealing your true purpose. You are careful to set up these groups to run autonomously so that you can dedicate your energy elsewhere. None of them suspect what you are really about. No one knows if you are here on a mission, if you are being paid, or if you are just an "involved" citizen.

Along the way, you make some enemies, and you also find that you have let your success go to your head. You also give in to the urge to attack your primary foes, and your politics begin to revolve around that.

It was a plan that was intended to be accomplished quickly. It took longer than you thought. There were more roadblocks than you anticipated.

Where once you were an unknown quantity, now you are being examined under a microscope. You don't like it, but you have to endure it. Because the cause is everything.

This election

Will the citizens of Eureka vote to hand the keys of the City over to Richard Salzman?

If they vote for Ron Kuhnel, Nancy Abrams, Larry Glass, Peter La Vallee, and, apparently, Bonnie Neely, they will be doing just that.

What does EPIC have to do with "REAL" Economic Growth? w/update

What does lawsuit happy EPIC have to do with "REAL" Economic Growth?

The new spokesperson for the new "Alliance for Ethical Business" (CREG, oh yeah - Citizens for "Real Economic Growth) is also the (former) spokesperson for EPIC, Larry Evans.

“In the absence of leadership from our current city council, CREG is determined to step up and provide a small measure of what the community was promised after 1999’s overwhelming 61% vote to defeat the first big box mall proposal—a democratic and inclusive process to resolve the question of how this public trust land can best serve the community,” said CREG spokesperson Larry Evans.

Does this mean Salzman is out of a job? Or just back in hiding? Or this organization is SO big they need a whole PR department?

Richard Salzman
Communications Coordinator
Citizens for Real Economic Growth

PS - It looks like Salzman is once again using a non-profit designation to shield his group from having to file FPPC campaign disclosures. Does anyone have any doubt that this group is quite clearly involved in the political process, advocating for the removal of incumbent City Council members, installing instead their own slate?

from CREG, is Salzman reaching into your pockets yet again?
"p.s. We depend on your support for our funding. Please go
online and make a donation. Every dollar helps: ..."

The so-called "Alliance for Ethical Business", the sham "Local Solutions", "ourhumboldt.org, "Redwood Progressive", "Citizens for Real Economic Growth" - nice sounding, cleverly chosen names designed to trick the voting public. George Orwell would be so proud.

Update: from Anonymous...
Larry Evans has not been the executive director of EPIC for about 2 months now.

That doesn't completely remove the question, however.

Coordinated campaign effort reminds citizens
it's not too late to register to vote

On Monday, Oct. 16, a rally will be held at the Eureka Gazebo beginning at noon to urge the citizens of Eureka to vote on Nov. 7. Voter registration forms will be provided, and the goal is to register at least 100 new voters of all parties.

The campaigns of Eureka City Council candidates Larry Glass, Nan Abrams and Ron Kuhnel, along with the campaigns of Eureka Mayor Peter LaVallee and Humboldt County 4th District Supervisor Bonnie Neely, are urging citizens to vote in the upcoming election. These individual campaigns are coming together on Monday to remind citizens they can play an important role in our local democracy by voting.

This is a grassroots effort to inform citizens they have until Oct. 23 to register to vote, as well as an opportunity for citizens not yet registered to do so regardless of party affiliation.

Question

Do you believe that Paul Gallegos "discovered" evidence of FRAUD a few weeks after he took office?

Thursday, October 05, 2006

More Ken Miller shenanigans?

Excellent commentary, and a fun read in this week's North Coast Journal's Town Dandy. Hank commends both the Eureka Reporter and the Times Standard for their coverage of Gallegos, the Bowmans and the $10,000 Bear River donation.

Hank's breaking news is even more interesting: Ken Miller has a "third career" as an ambulance chaser. Looks like Ken Miller is up to more dirty tricks. His hatred of law enforcement is already well documented on this blog, and he's been telegraphing his intent to make a big deal out of the Cheri Moore tragedy - and now what? More litigation? More costs to the County? Wonder if Ken is going to write the lawsuit on this one, too? That'll be a fun read.

A voice of reason

Eric Kirk's Op-Ed today is a voice of reason. His considerate tone is a hallmark of his popular blog

I guess my primary comment would be that if more reporters had asked the difficult questions of Paul Gallegos, we wouldn't be where we are today.

He is the product of highly successful spin masters, and the trouble with spin is that it wears the truth as a disguise. It is carefully constructed to incorporate a few elements of the truth, but is designed to obscure it.

NO-SHOW on KMUD

This from Eric's blog last week - "Estelle Fennel promised a follow-up tonight with an interview with Paul Gallegos on the controversy. The Graham trial jury is deliberating, or was at last report, so it's conceivable that something could break there that eclipses the Bowman issue, but I'll be listening at 6:00."

No word as of yet as to why Paul was a NO-SHOW.

More letters

Apparently the letter writer believes Mr Arkley made "generous campaign contributions" to Worth Dikeman's campaign. In fact he did not.

Perhaps the letter writer missed this in one of the previous articles: "In the previous election involving GALLEGOS — the recall effort in March 2004 — the single largest donation, $17,000, came from local business owners Rob and Cherie Arkley, followed by one for $10,035 from Petrolia resident R.B. Cogswell."

The reason Mr. Arkley's campaign contribution, and presumably Mr. Cogswell's contribution, to Paul Gallegos was not an "issue" was that neither Mr. Arkley nor Mr. Cogswell had a case pending before Gallegos' court, nor did he have any family members with a case pending before the court who could be given what appears to be favorable treatment. The same applies to other large donors to Paul Gallegos, such as the Blue Lake Casino.

It was the Gallegos campaign who jumped up and down accusing anyone running against Paul of taking money from Palco and lecturing on the impropriety of taking money from any person or entity who had a case in from of the DA's office. They should have taken their own advice.

Now, Gallegos is caught between a rock and a hard place, either admitting that he gave favorable treatment to the son connected to one of his largest donors, or he claims that his office is in the habit of dismissing nine felonies, and agreeing to probation.

Coming up: Gallegos campaign contributions

The latest Letters and Opinions

The beautiful thing about the Blog-sphere is that now, for the first time, there is a place for the entire record. As it happens, and a chance for people to weigh in.

The Eureka Reporter's letters to the Editor are online. The Times Standard and North Coast Journal are not at this time.
Will work on transcribing letters from the other papers and posting them in the comments section.

Here's the latest:
