Fortuna man arrested, charged with attempted murder
Derek Wendell Bowman, 29, is in custody after officers with the Fortuna Police Department arrested him, according to a press release. The department issued a statement a week ago urging anyone with information on Bowman's whereabouts to contact FPD.

Bowman, who was on active parole, also had been arrested in January by the California Highway Patrol during a multi-agency search in connection to an armed robbery.

He now faces charges of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit a crime, according to arrest logs from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Department, and is due to be arraigned on the charges this week.

On March 31, officers responded to Redwood Memorial Hospital to a report of a stabbing victim, according to a press release from FPD. The victim told officers that he had been assaulted while sitting in his vehicle at Kenmar Road and Renee Court in Fortuna.

Bowman was later identified as a suspect in the incident, and FPD offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
