WHO MAKES WHAT...

All salaries for Humboldt County (2012)

32 comments:

  1. How does a jail guard make $314,534.45 in one year? WTH. I am outraged. There appear to be several law enforcement all in the $200,000+ category all in a county that claims it's broke. Well every situation has a reason. Now we know what the reason is.

  2. A society that pays more (ok significantly and exponentially more) to those who only arrest and lock people up than to those who teach our young children will cease to exist as a society.

    Who indeed?

    1. I wonder if that was Mike Losey. He has been awfully silent on this thread.

    2. No it's Rick Grimm, the incompetent Fleming treasurer, whom she threw under the bus, and backed over on LoCo Outpost. Another former DA employee pointed out these salaries include people who retire and spike their last year salary to collect that fat CalPers check, which is larger than there paycheck. The DA investigator who retired in 2012 is none other than Rick Grimm. He made more than the DA or the Judges. That is why they got to have there DA to keep this atrocious system rigged.

  4. Why those names are not disclosed when all others are - is a good question. Some kind of reporting glitch?

  5. With the exception of one entry from one other agency it appears that ALL of the undisclosed salaries all appear to be DA investigators. In fact no DA investigator is listed by name as to what they make. Not very transparent if you ask me.

  6. Anon 11:25, sorry to disappoint, I've been retired for four years but I just know your question was for very positive reasons???right no-name!

    1. Max Cardoza also claims he is retired, but he is there every day (unless he is sick) collecting a paycheck and a retirement check. When you retired years ago, did you want to stay and collect those 2 check? Be careful Mr. Losey I know the answer to this question.

  7. @ Mike Losey. The salary of a Fortuna City Councilman is $300 a month. Apparently a DA investigator salary is $214,692. I am thinking you would rather have that job that pays a mortgage in approximately 1 1/2 years.

  8. Overtime. Not enough people to do the work, so some have to take on more than their share, and they're paid accordingly.

How to fix that - is another whole discussion.

Do you need that many investigators? And why? When cases just get pled out, and prosecutors don't have time to read all the info in the file in the overloaded bucket....

    1. No rose. The d a investigators overtime is for bullshit. Gallegos has not used them for preparing ongoing cases for trial but paid them to be wanna be cops interfering with crime scenes being dealt with by the sheriff's department. On at least one occasion they were threatened with arrest for interfering with the evidence at a homicide scene stupidly trampling right over the evidence. But what do expect from traffic cops who became "investigators" because they never had the ability when they were with the sheriff's office or the PD. Then Gallegos let them bilk the office for all of the overtime while attorneys and staff who did the real work were left in the wind with absolutely no support. The plan truth is that law enforcement despise the investigators as pampered overpaid, lazy and just not bright.

  9. Those salaries are so sick...I can't get past the fact that these people are making over ten times what most of us in Humboldt County are getting. Ten times as much money and nothing changes in Humboldt County. No real innovation, no new start ups, no community services added, just these people making enormous amounts of money off our taxes and giving us what? Crime and no county advancement in anything. No wonder we're broke as a County when these salaries don't give us anything but keeping up with the overpaid Jones in other cities.

If only these salaried people would donate 5% of their salaries to real community organizers like us elders living in poverty who cannot afford to do our work properly because of no funds. Don Brenard and I could bring three multibillion dollar businesses into Humboldt County if only we could get enough money to pay for a proper business plan which we can't afford.

I had to comfort Don who just couldn't take it any more that his tribe won't back him, and nobody backs me either, while we've put 19 years of volunteer effort into our work. Humboldt County has its value system in reverse as politics and crime steal attention away from real community building work.

  10. Some of those salaries are outrageous. Retire career government employees like Glenn Brown and that would fund two younger, more humble public defenders.

The investigator salaries, been said already.

  11. Guess what? These are 2012 numbers. Since then they have all received at least a 2% raise. The County is broke but you wont hear any of the candidates discuss the real reason.

  12. It's not necessarily all bad - while overtime costs more per hour, the benefits for that person are already paid for - the medical is paid, the social security cost is maxed out at around $120,000, the pension in many cases is at the max, vacation pay probably stays the same... so the 50% extra cost for overtime is not a straight comparison for a new person because you'd have to pay for all the benefits twice. So the costs are offset to some extent.

Not to say these aren't things to look at.

  13. Something is off in the benefits column - some of those look way lower than you'd expect, not sure what's up with that.

  14. What is utterly horrible about those salary figures is that the people in law enforcement making l0 times what the vast majority of their victims' incomes are, means there is no peer judgement coming down in Humboldt County. Not when a judge and all the courtroom, jail keepers are making 10 to 20 times what the people who they are handing draconian financial fines against--check your courtroom calendar any day and look at the fines charged the very poorest people--this is intolerable. No wonder we have so much crime with this sort of despair-agy in incomes. This sort of difference in class status is what leads to revolution when the masses are so punished for being poor by the rich.

  15. Rose, you and John Chiv are crime addicts, love reporting crimes in Humboldt County, and yet both of you fail to understand the class warfare that goes on in Humboldt County that is so obvious to us whose incomes are in the poverty bracket, i.e. a great many people in Humboldt County. Our class, the poor, are who are PAYING the salaries of those who prosecute the poor for being poor. As I say, any day in any court will tell you that the poor support the economy of law enforcement punishing them for being poor--e.g. evictions of the poor and fines paid to landlords by those evicted.

It's so ironic that people here think Progressives are radicals when they are the same as Republicans to us poor and actually worse because they try to stop any job creation. America never has revolution because the people are bought off by slogans about social security and welfare that really does not exist in America if your an elder or otherwise off the job market and not a pot grower.

    1. Stephen, you have no clue about me or what I contribute to the community. You choose to get angry, I chose to spend time, on my own dime, getting public information.

I don't exactly have certain people with power happy with me right now. Particularly, covering courts.
Exposing certain system injustices does more for class warfare than your bitter angry venting.

You have attacked every single blogger at some point or another.

You have some valid points. They are lost in your bitterness.

You are not the only one who struggles financially. So get over the righteous indignation and try being civil for a change.

I have ignored your rude comments, your threatening comments. When you decide to be respectful, you might get results.

  16. stephen, I agree with much of this. However, your one-man crusade against "progs" is blinding you from many of those who understand this.

  17. What you've done, John, is overreact to criticism. You're claim to fame rests on reporting crime news and please don't fall all over yourself trying to glorify ambulance chasing news for what it is. I work to change things, not let them continue on as social destruction that you just report like any newsman going after the story of bloody mess but not about to do anything to clean up things so these things don't happen.

When you work for social change, John, and not local fame, I will give you credit but you're not doing that, you're riding local news as is, with no criticism of the players you're job depends on, only criticism of me, the critic of the whole anti-social class warfare system. Plus you censored all my funny comments on your blog because you don't seem to have any sense of humor while I, the bad guy, keep smiles on peoples faces. Lighten up, and go get that moving message sign board installed in the courthouse that keeps a running tally of how much money each court case costs taxpayers in judges salaries, court officers, police, etc,..to see how our County officers make their incomes that allow them to judge the poor beneath them whose money makes their home and car payments.

    1. Stephen as usual you name call. You are incapable of rational dialogue.

People who know Rose, me and others, even people who disagree with us, their opinion matters.

Do you ever have anything postive to say. You had nice things to say on my blog but then you just snapped.

You just go from blog to blog like a coward stalking and yelling. You have not made any difference other than leave hateful comments on blogs and blame others.

If you had achieved anything you would not feel the need to attack me, Rose, Hank, Judy, Eric and that is to name a few people.

If it were not for Rose sticking up for you, I would have forwarded the nasty, threatening comments you left on my blog to the authorities expressing physical harm to me.

What have you done to make a difference in any one's life who is struggling besides vent on a blog and attack others?

  18. 7:32 - I was speaking generically, I guess, thinking more about the OTHER people on the list, not just the DA Investigators. I tend to agree with you there, and have heard many - many - criticisms of that team over the years. Including that they get in the middle of things where they have no business being.

The growth of Gallegos' SWAT team, starting with his Carhartt get up and the AR-15s, is deeply problematic - and bizarre.

    1. I could not agree with you more. The question becomes would Fleming have the guts to end that. The answer is not a chance. They like those operations. They earn OT and pad their account.

  19. What in the sam hell are you talking about, John?

"If it were not for Rose sticking up for you, I would have forwarded the nasty, threatening comments you left on my blog to the authorities expressing physical harm to me."

" nasty, threatening comments", John, are you insane? This is not rational response from you. Please post my "threatening" comments to you from your blog.

I mean, there's criticism of commentors but you've gone way overboard in reaction to criticism. I guess you're not used to it, John. Grow up.

  21. John Chiv, you need to post whatever you think I posted to your blog that propels you to seriously libel my reputation. You claim I threatened you. Show proof of this nonsense idea of yours. I need to know that someone isn't doing an identity fraud on you. I mean, do you not recall that you called me a "true Christian" not many months ago? Well, I am and I don't do dirty tricks or threaten people with anything more than reporting truthfully what I think and believe.

Be a mensch, John. I don't like libel coming from anyone. Anons libelers are cowards and their opinions don't count.

  22. As a former Humboldt Co. employee I can tell you that these salary figures are being misinterpreted. The base pay is actually the total paid to that employee for the year including overtime. These figures also show the benefits paid for an employee however does not show the employee's share of cost for benefits. There is one more thing readers are not taking into consideration is the fact that some of the employees on this list retired in 2012 so the amount paid will include any unused vacation pay, holiday pay or sick time. Just wanted to clarify.

  23. Still the fact remains that there is a huge class difference between law enforcement and civil service incomes and the people whose low income crappy lives are being exploited by law enforcement and civil service. Where is the PEER representation in this system that favors control by the far more wealthy over the people they make their wealth upon, like sharks.

I'm a senior citizen and my income is 10,600 or so and I, like all the people I know trying to get by on low incomes constantly have financial problems. More aggressive young men will do something about it when they can't find decent work. I tell you we can have city life move into big city problems or we can change things now to even up the playing field between all citizens so that this preying on the poor by the far more wealthy stops. Until the incomes are evened out more there will be crime.
