"I'll DESTROY you!"

While they're at it, maybe Larry Glass and the HCDCC ought to sic Jerry Brown on this guy... (a simple google of the phrase pulls this up...)

Disagree on climate change and "I'll destroy your career!""

A message from "global warming prophet"/President of the American Council on Renewable Energy, Michael Eckhart to Dr Marlo Lewis of the Competitive Enterprise Institute: one source

"Marlo -
You are so full of cr*p.

You have been proven wrong. The entire world has proven you wrong. You are the last guy on Earth to get it. Take this warning from me, Marlo. It is my intention to destroy your career as a liar. If you produce one more editorial against climate change, I will launch a campaign against your professional integrity. I will call you a liar and charlatan to the Harvard community of which you and I are members. I will call you out as a man who has been bought by Corporate America. Go ahead, guy. Take me on.

HEY! Don't get me wrong! I WANT Jerry Brown to come up here - you're just calling him for the wrong reasons. There are more serious issues that need his attention!

  1. How about these:

    1) I am reminded of perhaps my favorite all-time Peanuts cartoon. It was a Sunday strip in which Snoopy is trying to obtain, as he was wont to do, Linus’ blanket. As he sneaks up on Linus, Linus informs him of the following consequence should he suceed:
I will destroy you. I will destroy you and the place where you were born. I will destroy the records at the court house. I will pounce on you like the last days of Pompeii.

“Run a good campaign, or at least try to.
Even Governor Bush in 1999 had a new education initiative: it may have been bullshit (some today call it No Child Left Behind), but it was something that showed some leadership. But you’re right, it was a good thing Bush flew around the country on 9.11 so the media could show you walking around not knowing what to do, just like everyone else in America, I’m glad the saddest day of the 21st century, to date, was a free media day for you Rudy. Now, would you please, quietly go fuck yourself. You’re a lightweight, and if I ever get the chance I will destroy you.”

    3) Mike Flannery
    Reporting
(CBS) SPRINGFIELD, Ill. A Democrat in the state Senate claims Governor Rod Blagojevich threatened to "destroy" him because he refused to vote for the governor's health insurance plan, and that the threat was delivered in a tirade, laced with profanity.

As CBS 2 Political Editor Mike Flannery reports, Sen. Mike Jacobs (D-36th) is a second-generation state senator from the rough-and-tumble town of Moline, on the Mississippi River. He knows politics can get ugly. He claimed the governor went way too far with things he said Friday.

"He said, 'I will destroy you,’” Jacobs said.

The blowup came on a day when the governor was trying desperately to line up enough votes to push through the state Senate a merely symbolic version of his health insurance plan with no funding attached. Jacobs said he told Blagojevich that, for him, schools are the highest priority.

"This governor has mismanaged this state,” Jacobs said. “Education is the priority of everyone in the state. He's throwing a fit because he didn't get his way."
The governor declined to speak to reporters. And a spokeswoman declined to address the senator's account of the governor's rough language and threats. She did say, though, "Senator Jacobs wanted a commitment for a $75 million project in exchange for health care for everyone. The governor refused."

"He called my university president at Western Illinois, Dr. Goldfarb, called him, told him they were taking the money out of the budget because I wouldn't play ball with him,” Jacobs said. “I've been in rough and tumble politics my whole life, but when the governor of Illinois makes a personal and political threat, he'd better be ready to rumble. Look, I've got this beautiful family. The last thing I'm gonna do is let anybody destroy it, let alone a man who doesn't deserve to be governor of Illinois. If the governor would have been another gentleman in a tavern in East Moline, Illinois, and spoke to me that way, I would have kicked his tail end."

He said the governor had threatened to recruit an opponent to defeat Jacobs. Jacobs said three times that he was thinking seriously about running for governor, especially should Blagojevich seek re-election.

  3. And from one powerful democrat to another

The Robert Kennedy phenomenon goes unexplored in Bobby
    1. By David Walsh
    21 December 2006

Something similar might be said about Robert Kennedy. One of his first significant forays into public life is associated with the infamous figure of Senator Joseph McCarthy. In 1953 McCarthy appointed Kennedy as one of the assistant counsels to the Senate subcommittee on investigations. The latter dutifully red-baited with the best of them. After the Wisconsin senator’s political demise, Kennedy began a crusade against corruption in the Teamsters union: in fact, a thinly veiled anti-union witch-hunt. Under his brother’s administration, Kennedy was intimately involved in conspiracies against the Castro regime and authorized the FBI’s wiretapping of Martin Luther King. It was that administration, moreover, in which Robert Kennedy played a leading role, that escalated US intervention in Vietnam, leading to a tragedy of vast proportions.

Nonetheless, there is no reason to doubt the sincerity of Kennedy’s turn against the war and against Lyndon Johnson’s policy, even while one keeps in mind the longer-term motives and wider political context. Johnson made no bones about his hatred of Kennedy. At a meeting on February 6, 1967, the president reportedly told him, “I’ll destroy you and every one of your dove friends. You’ll be dead politically in six months.”

  4. Thought this went through earlier, but something went wrong...

How about equal time for the republicans as everybody does it, republican, democrat, enviro, governors, senators and presidents:

As an early McCain acquaintance and now a former friend, I find him to be a man of obsessive ambitions with self-destructive petty impulses. McCain admits to a lifelong thin skin: as an infant, he held his breath until he was unconscious when angry. In Washington, he’s resorted to physical pushing and shoving of colleagues when irritated.
When feeling inferior, McCain belittles: he snidely said, for example, that he slept better knowing that George W. Bush guarded the Texas border as a pilot in the National Guard.
When he explodes, McCain is quick to threaten, "I’ll destroy you!"
