Heads up, from Chiv: Ferrer sentencing may not happen until 4 p.m.

Ferrer sentencing may not happen until 4 p.m., information you would not know except for this post - John Chiv/Words Worth

It is listed as 2 p.m. on the court calendar for today. But when I checked on the time today, heard it may happen at 4 p.m. That is interesting since it is not a special set.

Come a bit early if you want a seat. I suggest people interested come at 2 p.m. and then you will know for sure.

Showdown Over Arcata Stabbing Suspect’s Plea Deal This Afternoon - Hank Sims/Lost Coast Outpost
The Outpost’s Ryan Burns will be in the courtroom this afternoon at the politically charged sentencing hearing for Juan Ferrer, the man who has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in stabbing death of Douglas Anderson-Jordet in December.

Community Encouraged to Come to Ferrer Sentencing Hearing - Arnie Klein

Today at the Humboldt County Courthouse at about 2 p.m. (may be moved to 4:00) Judge Joyce Hinrichs will be the presiding magistrate for the sentencing hearing of Juan Ferrer. The Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office has stated it will present a plea bargain to Ferrer of involuntary manslaughter for the November murder of Abruzzi chef Douglas Anderson-Jordet, which the judge does not have to accept.

Mr. Klein invites and urges every member of the community to attend who cares about public safety, justice and fairness. If you live here, work here, own a business, raise children, are going to school, retired and living on a fixed income, any of the above or none of the above, if you care at all about the future of public safety in Humboldt County, please attend the court hearing. Or if you cannot, follow the results of the hearing on any of the various social media outlets.

  1. sounds like the county meetings, if you dont want public input, just change dates and time to limit people from being in attendance.pretty sleezy if you ask me

  2. It's at 4. The judge had commitments in Arcata ( Drunk driving stuff at the high school, maybe) and probably wants to get everything else out of the way. The exact opposite of sleazy, for those who understand how busy the courts are.

  3. A lot of hot air about how drunk the victim was, according to the killers. What does the toxicology report say? Don't tell us this deal was done without tox results which could confirm or refute what was being said.

  4. Anonymous, the judge did not have commitments in Arcata. The Judge had a full calendar and was present in Courtroom 5 from 1:30 to the end of the day.

You do not use your name which would not be an issue if you stated facts.

As for your superior knowledge of courts, you do not even know the basics. The case was listed at 2 p.m.in the court calendar, when people called they were being told 2.

It was then postponed to 3:40 and then 4 and eventually due to other reasons started at 4.

Whether you actually work in any capacity with the courts or are just a legal beagle in your fantasy worls, do not open your mouth when you do not have correct information to promote an agenda, possibly that of one of the candidates, or put down other commenters.

  5. started at 4:40. is what I meant to say.

The case would have been heard, possibly later but not at this late hour due to a full calendar and because of the logistics of a packed courtroom and the Judge having to address that people could be accomodated and seated and there was security because the courtroom had to be open past 5 p.m. (and this was not a special set).

  6. Just so we are clear, that's Mr. "I'm above it all" Mr. Chiv going personal. He does not see the word "maybe, and then acknowledges that 4 was indeed the time set. So, if anyone is blinded by an agenda and delusions of self importance, it seems to be him. Poor silly little person.

  7. Anonymous read again, It said commitments in Arcata, among other assertions, maybe was inserted guessing why.

I will not address your personal attacks on John Chiv because it fuels you further. Here is the deal. You comment anonymously. You personally attack anonymously. You do not like it when your facts are challenged.

People see that. You can type comments as often as you want, if that makes you feel better.

Fact is no one cares anonymous because you are fixated on John Chiv today, who knows who else tomorrow.

It does not matter who you rant about because the rest of us understand that you need help which you refuse to get and instead type on a blog.

  8. Judge H had hoped to attend the Every 15 Minutes program at Arcata High, but court commitments prevented that.

  9. No, she did attend, and there a pictures to prove she attended. Sheesh, people, try to keep up.

  10. Anonymous state your name not pictures and then the baliffs and court staff that know she was in court all day can expose you for the liar you are.

You won't. You hide behind a screen because you know nothing.

  11. Well, the E15M folks say she was there on Thursday, and they seem like really nice people. Maybe if a bailiff says otherwise, that would be significant. So, until a bailiff or clerk says Judge Hinrichs was in court all day, the personal statements of E15m folk are good for me.

Your words of hurtfulness are so sad. Have a cookie.
