Ambulance Chasing yougofree.com style

Absolutely HILARIOUS! Kevin's Humboldt Review recently featured former Humboldt County prosecutor Jeff Schwartz, who discussed his new "Humboldt Center for Constitutional Rights."

His "Mission Statement" is Too often, people and organizations in Humboldt County have their basic state and federal constitutional rights violated. The Humboldt Center for Constitutional Rights was established to provide those people and organizations who have suffered constitutional violations such as assaults on the right to assemble and petition the government, race discrimination and police abuse, pro bono legal representation and support necessary to right the constitutional wrong.

Think about his dismal record in the DA's Office, his handling of the Whitethorn rapists case, wonder how she'd feel about this.

He says The Center is a grass roots organization funded by individuals and organizations that care about human rights.

Here's where he explains the modern day AMBULANCE CHASING" He calls it an EVENT MONITORING PROGRAM... Part of any 21st Century civil rights organization must be the use of 21st Century technology. We intend to monitor events in and around Humboldt County when we anticipate constitutional violations. We need volunteers who can assist us in setting up appropriate monitoring devices at hot spot events. We feel strongly that the monitoring of a public event with audio and visual recording devices will in and of itself prevent the abuse of constitutional rights by law enforcement, or at least cause hesitation and circumspection before law enforcement acts. Companies that insure law enforcement offers are known to visually record most planned events. But seldom, if ever, do those videos become available to the wronged person. We need our own.

The Center for Constitutional Rights is open for business. The inspiration behind the Center started when our Director, Arcata Attorney Jeffrey Schwartz, who was new to Humboldt County at the time, saw firsthand at the Humboldt County Courthouse the dismal lack of organization and legal representation of anti-war protesters and immigration reform protesters arrested by local law enforcement agencies. These protesters, exercising their rights to assemble and voice their opinions about the Iraq War and Immigration Reform, were arrested and charged with crimes commonly associated with protesting -- resisting arrest, battery on a police officer and other lesser offenses and infractions. The arrests and prosecutions of these protesters cause a chilling affect on others who would even think of protesting in the future.

What was most troubling to Jeff was the lack of legal support and pro bono representation by local lawyers who believe in the same cause as the arrested protesters but did not get involved. In larger communities in California and around the country lawyers and support personnel are matched to the protester before and throughout all legal proceedings.

The lack of organization in Humboldt County, not the lack of care and concern of many lawyers in the community, was the reason some devoted local lawyers did not get involved, which Jeff found deeply disappointing.

The Center therefore will organize, encourage, prod and beg the good legal community to be there for all of us who simply exercise our constitutional rights or live our lives under the protection of the Constitutions of California and the United States.

The Center expects to be the focal point, the clearinghouse, the lightning rod or whatever it takes to make sure those whose rights are violated have a voice to speak for them and with them in order to right the wrong.

Remember - this is the man who was assigned to head up the Child Abuse Services Team (CAST) - who never filed a single case.

Funny. I didn't see him at the TPZ rally today at the Courthouse. I guess they're not the kind of people whose rights he cares about. Maybe he was in disguise.

  1. Can it be a CENTER when it is only one guy? One guy spuffing himself up to look bigger than he is

  2. During the HR show, Jeff asserted that the presence of his monitors might discourage police misbehavior during crowd events. I suggested that it might inhibit misbehavior by ALL participants, to which he quickly agreed.

During the May Day 2006 event, there were clearly provocateurs among the protesters wishing to engineer a confrontation. On the law enforcement side, there were officers just itching to mash the protesters' faces into the blackberry brambles on the roadside, and that's just what they did – for the grotesque sin of jaywalking.

The CHP completely bungled the whole event and gave the more antagonistic protesters just what they wanted - a confrontation. Note the difference between that vortex of stupidity and the APD-managed, measured response to the People Project park occupation this past spring.

If Jeff's group is known in advance to be on hand with videos, it'll help everyone behave.

  3. What "group," Kevin?

Nah. This is trolling for cases in advance, looking for an opportunity to get the cops and get his face in the news.

If he TRULY cared about injustice, he would have fought for the victims he was supposed to be the voice for in the DA's office.

This is a ruse because he can't even make it in private practice, I'm guessing. The guy is a nut case. His wife seems pretty cool, must be that opposites thing.

  4. This has got to be a joke?!?!

Jeff Scwartz is a morally bankrupt piece of shit. Who is he try8ng to fool? PVG was picking at the rotten apples at the bottom of the barrel when he hired Yougofree. As messed up and as desperate as PVG was he had to send Yourofree packing. Yougofree not only didn't file any CAST cases he dismissed dozens, maybe even hundreds, of felony charges or pled them out to misdomeanors. Yougofree is lazy, plane and simple.

This will be one to watch. Not only to keep Yougofree in line but for entertainment purposes too.

  5. Humboldt Center for Constitutional Rights?!!!! I read the website. What a crock! It was kind of amusing. Pretty obvious the verbage came directly from Jeffy.

I wonder if Jeffy has any clients? He wants interns and volunteers cause he doesn't have or can't afford a secretary!

And Rose Jeffy's wife can't be cool at all or she wouldn't have married him, or at a minimum continue to be married to him.

  6. This was the guy who, on his first day at work, told the t/s that pvg was his idea of the ideal prosecutor.

now you know a little more about what type of person thinks pvg belongs in that office.

law enforcement? public safety? uppity women take back the night? no mas? domestic violence?
    meth? heroin?

not the issues that yougone or pvg seem focussed on.

extort businesses, enable dopers, and give walks to criminals with influence, pander to the students and activists, that sounds like more fun

  7. and form a "center" for those who have their rights "violated" by those mean old cops ?

Just do some checking on Yougofree's track record! Dismal would be kind.

  8. And just a reminder, this is a guy that got forced out of PVG's DA's office ! A serious screwup.

  9. I'd assume he's got some inside info on the EPD killing of Cherie Moore. This puts him in the forefront position to work for someone who wants to take on the city or the police officers individually.

  10. yougo free wishes one passenger from the 9/11 plane crashed in Penn would have survived. Then this asshole could sue for violating the terrorist right to crash the plane into the White House. No, I forgot he thinks it was all a sham to blame the poor terrorists and that our own Government did it.

  11. This moron ended up unemployed and had to pay the bills. Being the attorneyscum that he is, he probably attended one of those ACLU seminars on how to set up and sue cites, counties, and law enforcement agencies for their "deep pocket" money. Yugo knows that with all the wingnut kooks protesting around here he's got a built in client base. He thinks he's gonna be the "Yagman of the North"

  12. Gosh you learn a lot on the blobs. Er, Blogs.

Now if I can only navigate the word verification thingy.

  13. Sorry about the word verification thingy, Kevin. It's to stop the stalker.

Eh - I guess we shouldn't criticize Mr. yougofree..com - he's just trying to get in on the ground floor of Humboldt County's new growth industry, Predatory Lawsuits.

He's creative - I'm sure it won't be long til he stages an incident, hey, here's 50 bucks, go up there and punch that cop, then I'll record what happens next, I'll get you a bajillion dollars, and I'll only take half, plus I'll get so much glorious publicity...

    Just what Humboldt County needs.

  14. yougone's problem is simple.
    credibility.
    He has less than zero.
Everyone in the courthouse knows he is lazy, lazy, lazy, incompetent, scared to go to trial.

He could come in with the Scottsboro Boys as clients and the
defense wouldn't even make a settlement offer until jury selection was half done, then
they'd offer a deal if his client
    passed a polygraph.

and remember, he thinks (or thought, or said anyway) that pvg was the most bestest prosecutor ever ever, and just a lovely man. So you can trust him. and pvg.

    WHERE ARE THE CAST DOCUMENTS????

  15. Gee, I was going to add something, but it seems that everything has been already covered quite well by the above posters

  16. Yougofree.com is absolutely LAZY. He didn't even make a half hearted attempt to do good job for the DA's office. He got bumped up to top step, took over the CAST position, then went to coffee, took time off, and pled out cases like they had cooties.

Point being, he wiil be a loser at this too.
