Dark Anniversary

This Sunday, November 18, is the 29th anniversary of the Jonestown Massacre.
Tom Kinsolving posts a remembrance

Tom has also posted all eight of his father's original exposes on People's Temple. Four of them ran in the Examiner, the final four were killed because of Tim Stoen's threats and maneuvers. If people had known more about the People's Temple, and the two madmen, Jim Jones and Tim Stoen, would all those lives have been saved? If the editors of the papers had had the courage to tell the story, would it have made a difference? I think it would have. So, if you reflect on this dark anniversary, think about the people who, in fear for their lives, spoke (on tape) to a reporter from the Examiner, trusting and hoping that people would act if they knew the truth. Their trust was betrayed by the editors who caved in to Stoen's pressure tactics, and nearly 1,000 people paid for it with their lives. Stoen recently apologized to Les Kinsolving, saying, "You were right... I was totally wrong," wrote Mr. Stoen, having once filed a libel lawsuit (later dropped) against Mr. Kinsolving to squelch his reporting. "From my heart, I apologize for my mistreatment of you ... and castigating your motives." (Washington Times Inside the Beltway - Apology accepted)

  1. Wollf sends you a funny hippie story and you send Wollf to a place where he has to "Think"?

Thanks, Rose. It amazed me that anyone still fights that fight.

    Good that Someone does.

  2. While Mr. Stoen apologizes for "mistreatment" of Les, NO ONE in Kamp KKinsolving is apologizing for their nearly monthly slander of private individuals. Tom has NO scruples...just attacks away at anyone that disagrees with him. He's not apologizing. Seems Stoen is a better man than Tommy Boy.

  3. You think Tom's dislike of the Moore's is unreasonable?

I don't presume to judge. It wasn't my family who was threatened by the Temple members - it was his. Plots to kill Tom's father. You think that had no effect on the children in the family?

Tom's Dad did nothing more than report on a strange new preacher - and as he looked into it, he found more and more to report on.

And what happened to shut him down is unforgivable.

Add to that our experience here in Humboldt county with that hideous psychopath, Tim Stoen - no, I'll side with the Kinsolvings any day/

  4. ....Well said, Rose. Of course, you, me, and the rest of humanity have a long way to go before we'd ever attain the brainstorm proportions of Becky Moore's favorite waterboy, Joey "Anonymous" Dieckman. It would be hard to imagine a more articulate contribution to cult apologia than this priceless specimen.
Happy New Years, one and all!

  5. AS if Tim Stoen's apology means anything. It may be some small comfort to Les Kinsolving, but in truth it does nothing to set things right. Nothing will ever set it right.

And Stoen's behavior here shows that he has not changed one bit. He was up to the same kind of shenanigans that he perfected all those years ago. He latched onto a new 'cause" and a new Jim Jones here. It really is worthy of a college thesis. The study of that kind of mentality.

  6. Nothing will ever set right the death of so many people in the jungle of Guyana, young, old, teens, children, and babies, as well as the sick and dying. There is no such damn thing as making up for that. An apology doesn't mean a damn thing.
