Today's Tomorrow's Consent Calendar

Posted after 4:pm on Friday with Monday being Cesar Chavez day, a state holiday. Seems like, once again, there ought to be more notice for people who are following these things.

Item 14. Adoption of Senior Deputy County Counsel Classification.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Supervisors adopt the class of Senior Deputy County Counsel , (salary range 504, class 0598, unit 8) into the classification plan; Approve the revised salary range for Assistant County Counsel (from range 508 to salary range 530m class 0603); Approve the allocation of one full-time Senior Deputy County Counsel (salary range 504, class 0598) in budget unit 121 effective the beginning of the bi-weekly pay period following approval; and approve the disallocation of one Deputy County Counsel I-IV (salary range 489, class 0600) effective on the date the Senior Deputy County Counsel position is filled.

Page 1 of supporting documents: This means...
1. Adopt the class of Senior Deputy County Counsel, (salary range 503, class 0598, unit 8) into the classification plan;
2. Approve the revised salary range for Assistant County Counsel, from range 508 to salary range 530, class 0603);
3. Approve the allocation of one full time Senior Deputy County Counsel (salary range 504, class o598) in budget unit 121
effective the beginning of the bi-weekly pay period following approval and
4. Approve the disallocation of one Deputy County Counsel I-IV (salary range 489, class 0600) effective on the date the Senior Deputy County Counsel position is filled.

Item H. CLOSED SESSION
5. It is the intention of the Board of Supervisors to meet in closed session to consider the public employee performance evaluation for the position of County Counsel pursuant to Government Code section 54954.5.

Given H-5, should promotions and raises be on the Consent Calendar?

Update: Looks like it has been pulled for discussion. There were some glitches with the telecast, so I'm not positive.

  1. So this is how they make good on their payoff. And again, here the board goes putting this matter on the consent calendar and burying the big pay hikes with innocuous language, doing it after 4 pm on a friday with monday being a holiday. No tranparent government here folks. Its all done by slight of hand.

I hope the more reasonable supes pull this from the consent calendar. This is outrageous.

  2. Kinda seems like non urgent items ought to be noticed one week ahead instead of essentially one day ahead, and sometimes no days ahead of a meeting.

It caused problems during the TPZ issue and the practice of getting the agenda out after 4 on Friday is hard on everyone, including the Sups, I would think, since they have to read and digest the entire packet. Having the bulk of the agenda a week ahead would be helpful for everyone.

At least it could come out mid week, like Wednesday, the week prior to the Tuesday meeting. Seems reasonable.

  3. rose,
    change happens within......

have you ever thought of working for the DA's office? imagine the inside scoop youd get...

  4. Ya think he would hire me?

Ya think I could work for someone like that?

Don't think so. Good idea, though. :)

  5. I agree with you Rose, it would be helpful. Unfortunately, it looks like "helpful" is not what is being strived for. This is another example of how a couple of members who have payoffs to make good on(and I have my guess who)slide things in to it approved before the public can say whoa!

  6. I'm sure Geist will make glowing excuses ,again, for this Bull Shit. Gov works both from bottom up and top down. Not in our county. Step raises are for a reason. To ignore them hurts moral for the subordinates and destroyes trust in the public.

  7. "I hope the more reasonable supes pull this from the consent calendar.".

    And which ones are those?

  8. Uh are you for real 5:10. This has nothing to do with step increases and everything to do with paying off a couple of folks for doing wooley and neely's bidding. Read it. It creates a new and more expensive position for what we all assume to be Carolyn Ruth for doing things she hasn't done before and won't do with the increase. It also raises the pay for the current assistant who I believe is Shelly Morrison who is doing code enforcement. This doesn't have anything to do with step increases. Frankly, I work in the private sector and don't get step increases for anything. So I am simply gonna whip my little violin out and play "cry me a river!"

And you spell the word "morale" not moral.

    Sort of ironic isn't it?

  9. I guess we will have to wait and see, not enough information - were pay increases an issue before Falor left? Who are the specific people in question? what does the raise amount to? When were the last raises given? It may be that they are long overdue. What about all the cases that are hired to outside counsel?

  10. 5:39 the spelling was bad,I don;t see to well and sometimes typing and proof check gets missed. I don't get your point though. I think this whole thing is BS and I have little hope in our BOS. We have many foes why attack a friend. Lets keep our eye on the issue.

  11. Rose, you asked for more about this the other day on another thread. Here goes: PVG and Hislop somehow cooked up a deal with mass murder Wayne Ford, promising him immunity if he was willing to talk about the Karen Mitchell disappearance. Ford has apparently all but admitted being the perpetrator. Mitchell's aunt and uncle (Bill Casper, DOJ lab) agreed to the deal, for closure. On the drive down to speak with Ford, the Boy Blunder and Robin came up with the bright idea to renege on their deal. They met with Ford, told him no deal, he told them pound sand. No closure on the Mitchell tragedy. Good job PVG. Any thoughts?

  12. Is that legit anon? 9:01

I am not doubting you but it.

    If it's true it's huge.

Do you need a conduit for this?

  13. Doesn't surprise me. What do I think? This is a real story. And these are two cases of such importance - both Gallegos and Hislop are so far out of their league, this is a tragedy.

I'll open a thread on this.

  14. The excuse for the raises is a percentage difference. Some years back Karen Suiker was up for a raise but her percentage of difference was to close to John Murray's and she didn't get it but other departments were looked at and there were a handful of raises given out in those depts.

Chaiten is still "interim county counsel". I think she want to be sure she can work with the BOS because County Counsel is hired as a contract for 4 years (I think) but is an at will employee at the same time.

County Counsel also manages all the outside counsel that actually do the litigation.

  15. EPD has been trying hard to get rid of any negatives. DA was willing to take one.

  16. Does anyone really believe the BOS runs the county? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahhaha
