Elliot Spitzer under prostitution investigation

(CNN) -- New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer is under investigation for allegedly meeting with a prostitute in a Washington hotel, two sources with knowledge of the investigation tell CNN.

Gov. Eliot Spitzer, with his wife by his side, apologizes to his family and to the public.

One of the sources said Spitzer is identified in a criminal complaint as "Client-9," and that Spitzer's alleged involvement was caught on a federal wiretap.

  2. if it was a republican, it would have been a male prostitute. that seems to be the pattern anyways.

ive never voted democratic in my life, but this election i may have to.....

  3. He will resign as he should. At least he isn't compounding his crime by lying about it like the Republicans do.

  7. He's wound down his campaign, so to speak. I believe he'll still be attending the nominating convention and seeking votes of the delegates. No sense in beating his brains out over this, though, since McCain seems to be the anointed one.

Back up Jack! Billy Clinton lied under oath ON CAMERA about his "activities" with Monica and Bill is a Democrat. Of course Clinton lied all the time and people still overlooked it (Whitewaher, travelgate, Jennifer Flowers, Paula Jones, and so on).

Once again POWER corrupts. This guy had the world by the tail. A Harvard Law School graduate and he did what he did like none of these tute's would recognize him! The worse thing yet will be if he paid for the services with public funds.

And once again the wife stands by his side as he makes his lame apology.

  9. Bill Clinton committed perjury, too, 7:38... & was nearly impeached for it.

  10. Looks like he was more interested in the tail than the world.

  11. Adultery isn't a crime (yet). Spitzer committed a federal crime, sex trafficking. Clinton's crime came after the sex when he lied under oath. Lying about a non-crime isn't the same as committing the crime and then lying about it.

  12. "Ho No !", said the headline in the Sun....

*giggle*....at least the Lieutenant Governor can't be brought into the fray. Legally Blind.

I guess he didn't see it coming....

*ouch* Chastisement of Wollf for Non PC comment commences....

  13. 9:41 AM: "Lying about a non-crime isn't the same as committing the crime and then lying about it."

    Kind of like Scooter Libby?

  14. OK, what's your point? This guy committed the crime and then publically acknowedged it.

Dipstick, lying under oath IS a CRIME. Why do you think Barry Bonds and company are in the shit?

  15. I guess he isn't stepping down...

  16. Democrats never do. The LA Times editorials will be the opposite as if it were a Republican.

  17. Have they tested the water in Humboldt County for high levels of pharmaceuticals? There seem to be a lot of drugged people there judging from this blog. Knowingly outing a covert CIA agent is a crime but they have to be able to prove the traitor knew the agent was covert. Getting him for lying under oath was a sure thing. Sex isn't a crime. Lying about it under oath is. The legal sex was first and then the crime of lying about it. Sex trafficking is a crime. Lying about it is another crime. Spitzer knew he was committing a crime. He has prosecuted people for that same crime. Now he will resign in disgrace. Just another elitist who thought the rules didn't apply to him.

  18. right you are Ken, I mean 207. But most of the drugged people are blogging over on the t/s comment sections. But still, Spitzer has it coming. Sorry. Hard to avoid.

And now, Eliot Spitzer's most painful eliminations of the day ...

  19. Another difference between Democrats and Republicans. Democrats say he did it, he should resign, go to jail (whatever) now lets move on. Republicans deny even after they are convicted and demand pardons for the miscreants.

  20. if prostitution were legal, we wouldnt have to be having this conversation...

  21. But it ISN'T and he was the AG who was big on prosecuting these crimes.

  22. and he will resign: for having sex!!! god forbid......

we can be so victorian sometimes. why cant people be comfortable with sexuality?

  23. i didnt like bill clinton's policies, but the one thing i did like about him was that he could appreciate the ladies..........could you imagine being married to hillary and NOT getting some on the side?

  24. id personally like to see more evidence before i make up my mind. we can start with some pics of the high priced call girl named kristan;)

  25. He has basically admitted it Theo. And he is resigning.

    ReplyDelete
  26. 4:23,
i was joking. i just want to see some pics of the high priced call girl....

    ReplyDelete
  27. Me, too, Theo!

But you know it isn't the sex that is making him resign, it is the lying, same thing that got Nixon, same thing that got Clinton.

This guy has a cute wife, so what's the reason for this BS? Living the high life? A desire for self destruction? Very sad. All that intellect, pfffft.

    ReplyDelete
  28. rose,
just cuz his wife is cute doesnt mean that she can please his desires....obviously....

sex is a strong urge. unfortunalty, people have a strong urge to lie about sex since it is so taboo in our culture.

as long as there were no tax dollars being used, i could care less that this guy lied......

  29. Spitzer admitted his crime. The crime wasn't lying it was paying a prostitute to cross state lines for the purpose of sex. A federal crime.

  30. You're right - I was just reading the NYT report Eric links to - investigators said Tuesday he was clearly a repeat customer who spent tens of thousands of dollars — perhaps as much as $80,000 — with the high-priced prostitution service over an extended period of time...

"If the public is fine, he'll stay," said a Democrat who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject.

Still, Spitzer's many enemies from Albany and Wall Street were emboldened, and some of his friends went from shock to outrage.

"Particularly because of the reform platform on which he was elected governor, his ability to govern the state of New York and execute his duties as governor have been irreparably damaged," said Citizens Union, a good-government group that supported the crusading attorney general for governor in 2006 and provided critical support in his effort to reform Albany. "It is our strong belief that it is now impossible for him to fulfill his responsibilities as governor. Accordingly, Citizens Union urges him to resign as governor."

The case against Spitzer, a 48-year-old married man with three teenage daughters, started when banks noticed frequent cash transfers from several accounts and filed suspicious-activity reports with the Internal Revenue Service, a law enforcement official told the AP. The accounts were traced back to Spitzer, prompting public corruption investigators to open an inquiry.

  31. If he was getting so horny that he had to consider going to a hooker (or call girl cuz she charged more) he should have just looked at a picture of Hillary Clinton. She's ruined more wood than the Humboldt rainy season!
