The First Debate Under Their Belts

"So we may have our differences and there was some lively moments in the debate, but I encouraged all 4 of us to take a post-debate photo. I took a stand on the death penalty (should not be removed from the table), the ridiculous midnight jail release policies, and how to fight our epic drug culture here in Humboldt."
Allan Dollison

Thank you to the Humboldt County Tea Party Patriots for hosting last night's forum with the four District Attorney candidates. It's the rockbed of democracy that voices can be heard in the free exchange of the human marketplace. I was and am extremely pleased with the outcome and come election time, I am confident that my message will be heard and that voters of ‪#‎Humboldt‬ County will cast their votes for me. -- Access Humboldt informs me that it should air sometime within the next two weeks. We will keep you posted so you can watch it and see for yourself.

Candidates Spar at first DA Debate - Thadeus Greenson/The Journal

The candidates — Deputy District Attorney Elan Firpo and former prosecutors Allan Dollison, Maggie Fleming and Arnie Klein — spent the better part of two hours in the Eureka Veterans Building, answering questions composed by the hosting Humboldt Tea Party Patriots. The evening featured a number of lively responses touching an array of issues. If there was an underlying theme of the evening, however, it was that the district attorney’s office is currently mismanaged and woefully underfunded, leaving prosecutors overworked and often ill prepared....

The full debate is set to air on Access Humboldt in the coming weeks. If you missed it, don’t fret: the candidates are set to again lock horns March 20 at 7 p.m. in a debate sponsored by KHSU, the Mad River Union, the Arcata Police Officers Association and the Arcata High School Pepperbox newspaper that will be aired live on KHSU.

"Good article on the first debate. I am glad that Thaddeus included what was my marquee quote, "Dollison said [by lobbying the Board of Supervisors] “If they think the General Plan fight of 2014 is something, well wait until they see the district attorney funding fight of 2015,” he said. ◼ Allan Dollison

The Fortuna Fire Dept. is thinking of holding a community candidate forum. I have agreed to get in touch with the candidates to help facilitate setting it up.

They'd like to know which days candidates have available, so that they can plan a date - the facility is open evenings on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I'll keep you informed as it develops, with contact info and tentative date.
