At a glance: Final results in the November election

Paul V. Gallegos: 52.08 percent

Gallegos takes DA, Sundberg wins in the 5th; no changes from election night in city council races

Meth advocate Ellen Taylor is back...

Reflections on the Northwest Warfare Training Complex
She doesn't seem to understand that not only is the Navy separate and distinct from someone who works in river restoration, but really, Ellen, we can walk and chew gum at the same time. Have you missed all the restoration that has been going on? She also brings up the Patriot Act, so if you see her, you might ask her about the TSA situation. Is that a violation of our Bill of Rights too, Ellen?

Elections results expected tomorrow morning

Despite earlier predictions, the Humboldt County Elections Office said updated results of the Nov. 2 election won't be available until tomorrow morning. The office reported late Friday afternoon that the ballot counting is continuing. While staff will be in the office Saturday, it was not clear if the results will be posted online. 11/26/10
Humboldt County Election Office: Results expected today
On Wednesday, the office had 1,147 votes left to process. The staff of four whittled the number down to 850 by Friday afternoon.

(Carolyn) Crnich said because of the Thanksgiving holiday, she wasn't sure if the county's IT staff would be available to post results online, but they would be available for viewing at the elections office.

"It's a bigger cliffhanger than who shot J.R."

Will there be final election results today? Nope, looks like Friday...
Humboldt County Elections Office to post results Friday
Staff has been sorting the nearly 13,000 remaining votes since last week. Crnich said the staff has been able to weed out 250 invalid votes from the 1,700 provisional votes that were cast on Election Day. Invalid ballots means the voters were not registered.
A few of the provisional votes are considered pending by the Secretary of State's office, and those may be included after Friday's numbers.

Court hearing will determine progress in Bigleggins case

Court hearing will determine progress in child killing case
A court appearance today in a child killing case will determine whether the defendant is ready for a preliminary examination, in which the prosecution lays out its evidence.

The case against Leon Alyious Bigleggins, 25, has been progressing slowly, in large part due to a delayed autopsy report. Bigleggins is accused of killing 4-year-old Dylan Blount-Chambers in July at a residence near Titlow Hill outside Blue Lake.

An autopsy report found that the boy died from blunt-force trauma to his head and stomach. Bigleggins has been charged with murder, assault on a child and felony child abuse, to which he has pleaded not guilty....

Deputy District Attorney Kelly Neel said that her office has received additional discovery and has provided it to the defense. The hearing today will determine if the preliminary examination will proceed as previously scheduled on Dec. 1, Neel said.

He said he created a Political Ethics Unit - and he is going to need it to prosecute himself

That flurry of press releases during the political season is one thing - the benefits of the Rose Garden - this is another thing entirely. Using the DA's Office to send out his campaign material is a serious violation.

Whose Word? How Team Gallegos Manages Its Moneymaker

Subject: Fwd: letter to editor

Can we please get this letter submitted in by Friday morning, so that it will be in next week’s weeklies?

Remember that this is just the BEFORE, final results letter and that Evenson is going to work with you on a Guest Editorial / My Word, to follow the final results. But getting this out now will make it easier for me to raise money.

Past history: ◼ ER - WHOSE WORD WAS 'MY WORD'?

And note: It is not just that this campaign letter was sent out as a DA Press Release, using County staff and County time to conduct campaign business. It is this one on top of using County staff, and specifically DA staff, DDA's and investigators, to create infomercials disguised as documentaries, it's filming in the DA's office. It is the apparent ordering employees to draft op-eds for the local papers - and the apparent altering or even authoring of those op-eds, as evidenced by slipping campaign propaganda such as the false statement that Gallegos CREATED the Domestic Violence Vertical Prosecution Unit into one op-ed. Then trying to slip that same phrase into a Board of Supervisor's proclamation honoring workers, then sending out another press release claiming Gallegos had been commended for creating the program. Problem is, he didn't. And everyone in the room knew it (including the employee whose My Word was included in the scam) so it was REMOVED from the proclamation prior to approval.

Political maneuvering. Read paragraph 4

PAUL GALLEGOS' BALLOT STATEMENT READS:
Say anything
OOOPS, Not exactly - COMPARE THE DOCUMENTS
Piece by Piece - Anatomy of a deception

This pattern is very clear. Gallegos used his employees. OUR employees. And he couldn't run on his own record so he tried to take credit for the work of others.

'Grinding on': Elections office continues to sort through ballots; final results likely more than a week away

'Grinding on': Elections office continues to sort through ballots; final results likely more than a week away
Local candidates have some more waiting to do.

With the outcomes of a few local races still hanging in the balance 11 days after Election Day, the Humboldt County Elections Office continues to have its hands full with post-election audits and final results remain but a proverbial speck on the horizon.

”We're really grinding on this as hard and as fast as we can,” Humboldt County Registrar of Voters Carolyn Crnich said Friday. “But, accuracy over speed. We want to do it once and do it right.”

There is a hard deadline looming. The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors must certify the election results at its Nov. 30 meeting, which will kick off a five-day period in which candidates or members of the public can challenge the results or demand a recount.

AG's Office leaves rape case dismissal in place

AG's Office leaves rape case dismissal in place; attorney general finds Gallegos' office did not abuse discretion in handling of case that became campaign issue

What that means is - the DA is allowed to decide to take or not take a case. It's not up to the AG. Doesn't mean he was right, or wrong, just that he has the right to refuse to prosecute a case.

He only answers to one higher authority. The voters - who don't understand what they have hired, or that it is failing.

Campaign archaeology: The Gallegos Propaganda Blog

DA and Plaintiffs in the Driver’s Seat on Skilled Healthcare Case…

Seniors protected from unscrupulous nursing facilities, thanks in great measure to the intervention of District Attorney Paul Gallegos…

Gallegos moves for Injunction against Skilled Healthcare…

Gallegos Forces Nursing Facilities to Follow the Law…

Gallegos calls Skilled Nursing’s bluff in court…

Why Gallegos Went to Bat for Seniors…

Gallegos Wins Justice for Seniors. Settlements to bring $2Million to Humboldt DAs Office…

NIce, huh? Especially in contrast to Paul Hagen’s honest characterization of Gallegos’ self serving chest thumping:
“…Three private law firms initiated the Skilled Healthcare case and again did most of the work, but in his ads Gallegos takes full credit. His ads are neither true nor ethical…

“If you really want the truth about Gallegos’ professional ethics, inquire of him why the other affected DA’s and the Attorney General all refused to join in his Skilled Healthcare settlement due to their ‘ethical concerns’ over his use of secret settlement monies and more. Ask Gallegos himself to explain directly, honestly and openly the formal rebuke he has received from the California District Attorneys Association for his unprofessional use of DA authority in settling that case. Go ahead, ask him to explain honestly and directly. He won’t. That would require real courage and the capacity to tell the truth regardless. He has neither…”

So, why DID the other affected DA’s and the Attorney General all refuse to join in his Skilled Healthcare settlement due to their ‘ethical concerns’ over his use of secret settlement monies and more?… Go ahead, ask him to explain honestly and directly.

And here's a tip for reporters: The first time you ask the question, he has the prepared bullshit answer. The second time you ask the question, it'll garble a bit. The third time you will start to get closer to the truth, and by the fifth time, you will, maybe, get the truth. If nothing else, you will know he was trying to snow you. John Matthews should give lessons.

'It ain't over 'til it's over': Thousands of uncounted ballots leave some Humboldt County races uncertain

'It ain't over 'til it's over': Thousands of uncounted ballots leave some Humboldt County races uncertain
"...Humboldt County Registrar of Voters Carolyn Crnich said Wednesday that almost 13,000 ballots have yet to be counted and likely won't be tabulated for two to three weeks. It's currently unknown exactly what precincts the ballots are from and what races they might affect, Crnich said.

That puts just about every race in the county mathematically in play and leaves the outcome of three especially tight races hanging in the balance.

Crnich said 5,623 vote-by-mail ballots received by the elections office prior to Tuesday have been verified but have not yet been counted. Additionally, she said 5,649 vote-by-mail ballots were received at polling locations and at the elections office counter on Tuesday. Another 1,688 provisional ballots were cast at polling locations Tuesday, Crnich said, bringing the total number of yet-to-be-counted ballots to 12,960.

Crnich said the number of provisional ballots filled out in this race was unusually high. She said she imagines it's because Humboldt State University is back in session, and many students may have moved but failed to update their voter registration since the last election they participated in. She said the majority of the provisional ballots were cast in Arcata precincts...."

Better find out if those provisionals have valid addresses, valid phone numbers, valid signatures and/or are registered and voting in other counties or states.
