And so it goes...

Some leaving, others just starting at Humboldt County DA's Office
1/10/2007

With at least three employees retiring or leaving the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office, Humboldt County District Attorney Paul Gallegos said he wishes them all the best.

Linda Modell, who worked as the office manager in the DA’s Office, now works in the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

“(Linda is a) great person, great employee, great partner in managing the office and (was great in) leading it through the financial challenges we faced,” Gallegos said. “Few can really appreciate how difficult that was and how artfully she steered us through it.”

Chris Andrews, an investigator with the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office and Northern California Computer Crimes Task Force, is also leaving.

“(I am) happy for the opportunity that has presented itself to him; he deserves it,” Gallegos said. “He is a very intelligent person and will go far. Unfortunately for us, his skills have risen to that level that we simply could never pay him what he can get in the private market. I am happy that I had the opportunity to have gone against him and to work with him. I learned from both experiences.”

In addition to the two leaving for other jobs, Kathy Philp, a longtime investigator with the office and wife of Humboldt County Sheriff Gary Philp, recently retired.

“(She is a) great person (and) great employee,” he said. “(I am) happy for her and her decision to retire at this point in her life. (I am also) grateful for her service to Humboldt County.”

While some are leaving, others are just starting. Gallegos said he is looking forward to working with them.

“I am very, very proud of the new additions to our office and am excited that we are moving forward with the plans we have for better serving Humboldt County,” he said.

Who's just starting?

  1. Chris Andrews did not leave because of money, as Gallegoes implies. Andrews did not want to work in the DA's Office any more.

Why would Linda Modell leave a job she's been at so long to go to the Sheriff's Office? The direct implication is that she couldn't stand working there anymore either.

The article doesn't mention that the Chief Investigator is leaving, and that Gallegos lost a prosecutor (a Humboldt native) who had only worked there a few months.

I can't believe the ER printed the story that way (no hard questions, just Gallegos's rosy version), and I can't believe that the public thinks nothing is wrong with an attrition rate the likes of the DA's Office.

  2. 9:11 am. I'm with you, reading the article, after seeing the picture of Paulie raising his hand at his swearing into office ceremony, is just laughable, but a poor joke at that. Calling Mr. Kharma, we need your help here! Roy

  4. Hey look who's talking 1:39. I work 5-7 days a week and make a good living. This is not garbage, these are the facts.

The fact is that you can't handle the truth so when faced with the facts you rant "garbage." I and others blame garbage like you for manipulating the truth and keeping this idiot in office. Hopefully, you will be eating humble pie when the dirtbag is indicted.

  5. Says the person who is reading this blog and posting on it too!

You're probably the type of person who thought that Nixon should be left alone during Watergate too.

You can choose apathy, but you can't tell us what to do.

    Your solution: don't come here!
