Opening salvo

Prees Release from Firpo campaign - John Chiv/Words Worth

For Immediate Release:

Contact: Jaison Chand firpoda@gmail.com

Elan Firpo welcomes Maggie Fleming to the race for the office of District Attorney for Humboldt County. Maggie was a part-time employee of the District Attorney when Elan came to the office five years ago, and there was a two year overlap before Maggie left. Elan knows Maggie to be a competent trial attorney and looks forward to debating Maggie on the complex issues a District Attorney faces, especially about the management of the office.

Elan Firpo, the one candidate running for Humboldt County District Attorney who is currently a prosecutor, is currently handling 4 murder cases and over 200 felonies. Elan is familiar with a heavy workload and time pressure. She spent 10 years as a design engineer (Graduate, Cal Poly), when she was responsible for teams of 15 to 50 employees, and she has overseen manufacturing facilities with more than 3000 workers. Elan Firpo is experienced hiring and firing, setting and meeting budgets, and assuring quality control.

In fact, Elan Firpo is the only candidate in the race with significant management accomplishments. Some have none at all. No wonder Elan Firpo is heavily supported by a business community that understands Elan will bring private sector innovation and efficiency to an office sorely in need.

  1. Actually, calling Maggie a "part time" employee is a tad misleading. As I recall (and Maggie will swiftly correct me if I'm wrong) she was working 32 hours a week and handling a full felony case load and trial schedule. She furloughed eight hours a week to help the office's tight budget situation and to co-parent with her husband their wonderful daughter. Her talent and experience more than made up for the loss of hours. And, as with all trial attorneys, Maggie put in a lot more hours than she was paid for.

  2. You passive aggressively welcomed Maggie? How condescending.

  3. For your information, Fleming, Klein, and dollison were the only three of the candidates that were hired as felony trial prosecutors. Firpo was not. She was hired as a misdomeanor attorney and held that for two years. So half her attorney experience has been handling infractions and misdomeanor cases that never go to trial.
In addition, the only reason she became a felony prosecutors is because Gallegos lost all his seasoned felony attorneys. All of which run circles in felony and trial experience. Once again, firpo misrepresentation herself in experience and abilities. As for the number of cases handled I highly doubt that number, but you as the public should submit a public information request to the. A office and courts as all the cases are public information and can be retrieved by type and proctor name under DA star and sustain database systems.

  4. BTW, Fleming was never a part time employee. She generously helped the office balance the budget. In other words she was more efficient with her time. Unlike firpo who gets in late and leaves the office early and takes long lunches. I hope when Fleming wins, that her first order of duty is fire firpo.

  6. Laughable, she really thinks she's got it in the bag. So much so that she is welcoming people in as if it is her house. How disrespectful.

  7. No, that's not it. It's simply Game On.

  8. "simply game on" from someone who has yet to announce, still has over 50 fake likes on her FB page, refers to Fleming as part time, and "welcomes" Maggie to the campaign. That's like Belgium welcoming Germany to WWI.

  9. Fantastic! More private sector controlling decisions in government. Just sounds like political prostitution. Selling politics for personal gain. Firpo for DA!

  10. Just one comment for all anons. People only attack when they are afraid.

The campaigns you represent, which from your naive blogging tactics is easy to guess, should look in the mirror.

Talk about the strengths of your candidate, going negative makes your candidate look weak and petty.

  11. Ummmmm....9:02 you are mistaken. Many commenters are community members and not affiliated. So now citizens aren't allowed to have a voice otherwise we are some how connected to a campaign? This race affects the community and not just the people in this popularity contest. So thank you for your "advice", but I will keep speaking for myself and with concern for my community. This isn't supposed to be a popularity contest it is supposed to be who can do best for our community and I will voice my option. But thank you for the attempt to silence community members.
