* Sources say Salzman is no longer associated with the Transparency Project. For what it is worth. And I am not sure what it is worth. But I think it is clear that Richard Salzman, and his affiliates, have no business putting their hands on any ballots in at least three races.

  1. The two parted ways about a year ago.Mitch even stated so on one of these blogs a little while back. The Transparency Project is a wonderful tool and you should be thanking Mitch for his efforts in working to develop it,he's done it all without receiving a dime.I am just one of many volunteers who have taken the time to scan the ballots, some of which share the same political views as you do Rose.If Mitch wants to take his creation to make himself some money,he has every right to do so.

  2. Its all coming together now. Nice catch Rose. How in the hell does Paul Gallegos (supposedly) survive an election where literally every other "progressive" candidate loses, and loses by a LARGE margin?? This has been puzzling me now for a few days. How? How, when even many of these "progressives" have publicly shunned him? I will tell you how. They are part of criminal cabal focused systematically on the justice system. They lost for Sheriff. They knew Gallegos was in trouble, so they cheat. This community should be up in arms over this kind of conspiracy.

  3. Did these two have any part in Humboldt County's recent election's vote counting?

Allison Jackson had a significant lead at the beginning.

  4. Rose, most voting machines now don't have a paper trail. If they do issue a receipt, it is just for comfort and is not used for recounts.

We still have old fashioned paper ballots counted by a scanning machine with private source software. We can verify it by placing the ballots on a conveyor belt and snapping photos of them and compare the images with the count of the machines.

Open source software should be in all of the machines so that the people in charge of elections locally will be able to know if they are working properly.

If they do an IPO we should get in on that.

No.That is taken care of by Election Department employees. The Transparency Project verifies those results. Also,as I stated above,Salzman is no longer involved. It may be a good idea for Stephen,Rose, and others to simply talk with Carolyn Crnich or Kelly Sanders for further questions about Salzman's involvement, about the project itself,or anything else of concern,as both of them are right on top of anything to do with it.

  6. Would you shut up Mark, both Mitch and Dick are big boys. They can defend themselves. All you do is come off sounding like someones bitch.

    Connect the dots.

  7. Rose,I would think that their involvement in election machines and such (non involvement in regards to Richard) pales in comparison for you to Hugo Chavez's.I don't have near the dislike for him that you do,but even knowing how financially debted into a voting machine company he is is worrisome to me.

  9. It's pretty strange to think people would vote in Downey, then turn around and vote in Paul. I don't think Paul is the devil, but something is a little off and I don't think it can all just be blamed on HSU students.

  10. Rose,I was given word that the project has begun scanning some of the verified ballots,if you have some time I am sure that nobody down there would have a problem with you helping out.Even Hank, who is a thorn in Mitch's side, and vice versa, has helped out and has given some deserved praise.Contact the elections department and they will set it all up for you,if you are interested.I think you would like what you see,and to have your concerns laid to rest.

  11. Frankly, Mark Konkler, given your Gallegos advocacy, I don't think you have any business near those ballots either.

  12. Marky Mark as paragon of clean elections, now there's a joke after that dirty filthy Measure T campaign he was mobbed up with..and did you catch that disgusting article from Kaitlin Sopoci-Brinton in today's Times Standard there Rose? As if we're supposed to trust her to 'bring us together' after calling Measure T dissenters a bunch of woman-hating, union-busting slave masters.

  13. Rose,

I've just discovered your reference to me on this blog.

About two years ago, I asked Richard to partner in TEVS. He busted his butt on the phones, trying to drum up interest among just about every California registrar.

About a year ago, we parted amicably with a signed agreement. I never removed his name from the web site; my mistake. I've now removed it.

I have the greatest admiration for Richard Salzman. I think he is one of the kindest, most decent, and most effective people in local politics. That's why I initially asked him to be my partner, and my opinion has not changed.

Although Richard is no longer part of TEVS, and was never part of the Humboldt County Election Transparency Project, you might be interested in the distinction between TEVS and the Transparency Project.

The Transparency Project is a group whose goal is to produce ballot scans of all cast ballots so that anyone can then count them for themselves. Those scans are made by people who are allowed in by our Registrar, who always work with two or more persons in the room.

TEVS is both my system for counting votes off those scans and the business by which I hope to get it placed at elections offices outside of Humboldt. TEVS (the system) is open source, licensed under the GNU General Public License version 3. That means you or anyone else is welcome to get a copy and give copies to anyone else, without paying me or anyone else a dime.

TEVS (the company) exists primarily to provide TEVS users with confidence that there is a place to come for paid support, training, and maintenance.

  14. I once liked Richard Salzman, too, Mitch. And I have repeatedly stated that he is inherently more honest than his pet project, Paul Gallegos.

But there is another side that you have not yet experienced - and it is a vicious scorched earth side. In his own words - which is the best way to understand him, listen to what he says about his targets - what is it, Richard? A crazed wolverine? Something like that.

Just try crossing him even once, Mitch.

You may find yourself slimed in the only venue he has left, KMUD's call in.

C'mon, Mitch - can't you even IMAGINE why he would have intense interest in anything involving the votes being counted? Please. Any in. Any method. Any chance. Remember, with Salzman, the ends justify the means. You were useful to him. Nothing more. Maybe it didn't pan out, and you really did sever your ties. Or maybe the ties are severed for appearances sake. Or maybe we will find in the end, when the mask comes off like it has on the Gallegos campaign, there he is staring out at us from the shadows.

    Time will tell.
