STILL No mention of his party

Crescent City man accused of threatening Obama
A Del Norte County man has been indicted by a federal grand jury in San Francisco on charges that he threatened in an e-mail to kill President Obama and members of his family....

The case, which was investigated by the Secret Service, is not the first time Gimbel has come under scrutiny for e-mail messages.

In April 2004, Gimbel was accused of complaining about a $5 parking ticket in an e-mail and threatening to deputize "all of the citizens of Crescent City to fix up some of these f- up piggos. Grab those hi-powered deer rifles, each and every, and get in groups of 50 and more and go breeze away to dust the skull of the police chief."

Gimbel was convicted of making the threats, but the conviction was overturned on appeal, court records show.

In another case, Gimbel allegedly harassed a Del Norte County sheriff's deputy who cited him for having faulty brake lights and no proof of insurance....

John Vrieze, a Eureka attorney who represented Del Norte County in both cases, said today, "The guy has some type of obsessive disorder. ... He's become very fixated on his First Amendment rights, thinking that transcends all bounds and that you can say anything you want and that it's protected speech. He probably could stand to benefit from some therapy."

Crescent City man indicted for Obama threat
During the visit, Secret Service agents interviewed one of his sisters, who said Gimbel was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and was troubled after being discharged from the military....

◼ May 1, 2007: Gimbel sends an e-mail to NBC Universal to “kill Bush and his family.”
◼ May 7 and 13, 2007: Gimbel sends e-mails to 80 U.S. representatives and senators asking them to kill President George W. Bush.
◼ May 14, 2007: The Secret Service visits Gimbel at his Crescent City home. He tells them he is “harmless.” He said, “I just make ugly comments.”
◼ June 2007-June 2009: Gimbel sends more than 20 threatening e-mails.
◼ Sept. 7: Secret Service once again visits Gimbel.
◼ Oct. 13: Gimbel is indicted for threatening President Barack Obama.

Crescent City man's threats to presidents go back years TS

No mention of his party tells you one thing - he is not a republican, If he was it would be in the headline.

  1. I doubt Gimbel has a party.

    I think he's an equal-opportunity hater.

It is fair to note that the guy is a paranoid schizophrenic. Sounds like he falls off his "med wagon" every so often.

  2. And this guy is different from Glenn Beck how exactly?.......

If the twit is a registered voter it is a simple matter to research. I suspect that the TS "reporter" neglected to tag him for a very good partisan reason. In any event he is probably of a similar political persuasion and intellect to 7:39PM.

  4. Hmmmmm...lot's of assumptions there Humboldt Heretic.

    Are you psychic?

I hear "party hack" talk about a mentally ill man and I gotta wonder why you "suspect" or think he "probably" is the same political persuasion as 7:39?

Is someone a little paranoid or what?

  5. Dave,
Q: Did you overlook the qualifiers "suspect" and "probably" in the Heretic's statements?
A: No. You even included them in your comment which leads us to conclude you lack reading/grammer skills.
as·sump·tion: The act of taking for granted.
psychic: Capable of extraordinary mental processes,
Sort of like "assuming" Gimbel is "mentally ill" without any evidence he has been adjudicated as such or by gratuitously inserting the words "party hack"?
Regarding your query: "Is someone a little paranoid or what?" the answer is probably; yes.

Here's a simple assignment for you; Contact the Del Norte County Registrar of Voters at :
    981 H Street, Suite 160
    Crescent City, CA 95531
    Phone (707) 465-0383
    Fax (707) 465-0321
    Email:  elections@co.del-norte.ca.us
Let us know if there is a voter registration record for John Gimbel of Crescent City and if so his party affiliation. Oh wait. The TS reporter should (did?) have routinely done that and if the affiliation is (D) then the reporter is a good candidate for the designation of "party hack". We are anxious to read your report.

  6. What do you mean "sort of like "assuming" Gimbel is mentally ill?"

Review this QUOTE FROM THE POST:

"During the visit, Secret Service agents interviewed one of his sisters, who said Gimbel was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and was troubled after being discharged from the military."

Sounds like the guy has mental problems to me. What part of the quote didn't you understand?

As far as "gratuitously inserting the word party hack" - Humboldt Heretic used "partisan" and "similar political persuasion and intellect" like any good party hack would. Left or right. Don't you agree?

  7. Dave: "What do you mean "sort of like "assuming" Gimbel is mentally ill?"
Let me help you out here. You are assuming a fact not in evidence i.e. hearsay. "...one of his sisters... said Gimbel was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and was troubled after being discharged from the military..". I would agree that from the article, Gimbel appears to exhibit bizarre behavior but so do many of our former "neighbors" in Weitchpec. Very few of them have been adjudicated as mentally ill. He may or may not be "certified". We do not know.

Rose's point is well taken that the MSM always reports the political party affiliation of repugs when reporting transgressions but frequently omits the data when the perps are dims.

Q: In what lexicon does "partisan" equal "party hack"?
A: In that of a "progressive" when referring to a conservative/libertarian.

Meanwhile, the jury is still out as to the TS reporter following the paradigm of the MSM. Let us know how your investigation goes.

  8. Oh come off it. This is a crazy person, pure and simple. He wouldn't know one "party" from another.

  9. You asked "In what lexicon does "partisan" equal "party hack?"

How about what Webster's New World Dictionary says?

"Partisan" -(noun)1.a strong supporter of a side, or party;etc.
    2. a guerrilla fighter-adj. of or like a partisan

Wouldn't that "strong supporter" part qualify as a party hack? Just asking?

If you want to call me a progressive that's your business.

I don't associate myself with any party, nor do I consider myself progressive, conservative, libertarian, or any other idealogical label you may come up with.

I'd rather stick to issues and leave the party hacks to their games.

There's liberal and conservative newspapers. The T-S is one of those liberal ones. It's all about rich men pushing their agendas through the media. Nothing new.

Dave, FYI: "Hack 3a "One who undertakes unpleasant or distasteful tasks for money or reward; a hireling." You even admit this as you describe: The T-S is one of those liberal ones."

4:22PM, He (Gimbel) knew enough when questioned by the SS to characterize himself as: "harmless...I just make ugly comments.”

You both miss Rose's point which is noted in the link in LEO's 3:32PM comment. The "political hack" is the "reporter" in the TS piece if this creep (Gimbel) turns out to be a Democrat (which Dave will doubtless advise us).

  11. Dave says "I don't associate myself with any party, nor do I consider myself progressive, conservative, libertarian, or any other idealogical [sic] label you may come up with."

If you don't want to be characterized as a duck, quit quacking.

  12. Don't you mean quit talking Pogo?

All I have to do is not make any comments and you won't call me a duck right?

Gee... thanks for such insightful advice.

I'll just look on as people like you make comments that are surely much more worthy than anything I could contribute.

7:39 PM intellectual reasoning: "Glenn Beck emails death threats to politicians"

4:22 PM logic: "Oh come off it! Those Duke Lacrosse players are rapists pure and simple."

  14. In one of the articles I saw there were 70 people on his hit list. Those names should reveal his ideology. If any.

  15. Ideology? An insane hatred of authority?

That's not my point. It is that IF he was a REPUBLICAN, THAT would have been the headline 24/7 for the next month.

As usual, when it doesn't fit the meme, it gets swept under the Progressive rug.

  16. If he showed up to an Obama event with a gun he would get the coverage. The Secret Service are overwhelmed with death threats against Obama right now and they're looking to make an example of someone. But this guy hasn't really done anything yet to distinguish him from the thousands of others.

The guy who went into the Unitarian church last year hunting for liberals didn't get a whole lot of coverage outside of Olbermann and Maddow. Nancy Grace who preys on crime stories never even mentioned it. I think your premise is off.

I am wondering if this might be the same John Gimbel who used to live in Arcata and whose father was a professor at HSU (history department, I think). If it is, then, yes, this individual has mental problems. He used to lurk in the landscaping on campus and follow women to their cars during the 1980s.
