Kevin L. Hoover's So-Called Thoughts:

Lions & tigers & Berg – oh, why?
Defining tribal politics. An interesting take.

(And note: The so-called thought" is Kevin's title not mine, I am not being derogatory.)

  1. Thanks. I missed that one. BTW, I just read in the Arcata Eye yesterday(?) that Hoover is endorsing Mike Wilson.

I hope Hoover gets paid by the word. It is absolutely amazing the amount of ink that can be spilled stating the obvious.

  4. I find it interesting that Hoover attacks Shane Brinton in an article for Shane's observation that the panhandling ordinance would likely be challenged by some group outside of Arcata, with Hoover griping that outside interests should butt out of Arcata politics. When Dave Meserve desired to take on the military at the local level with an ordinance aimed at city interest,Hoover was crowing that outside interests would, and should step in and interfere with the city and butt into Arcata politics.
Gotta give a thumbs down to Mark Wheetley on his hipocrisy in regards to the panhandling and the Meserve ordinances. Disappointing,as I like Wheetley and think he's a fine councilmember.

Wrong-o. The voters of Arcata approved the Arcata Youth Protection Act, which aims to protect Arcata's youth against recruiters. I supported it because I have personal experience with being misled by recruiters as a young person.

So as you can see, you have it not only backwards, but upside down as well, Mr. No Space After A Comma.

If this person had any sense of irony, which is doubtful, they would enjoy that the point of that piece was the futility of labels, affiliations and alignments.

  8. Are you guys out of your minds. Hoover is a good man. Period. He calls it like he sees it. I don't agree with him on Wilson, because I support Hauser, but to attack him like this is wrong. Go over to Heralda.

Wish you would change your mind Kevin, but we agree most of the time.

  9. As for Hauser, I remember him as one that people basically liked, like Thompson, and unlike Wes Chesbro. I've never come across anyone who likes Chesbro.

Hauser, it seems to me, is the real Democrat, maybe now we'd have to call him an old-school Democrat - which is totally NOT the new-school "Progressive" shut everything down aggressive new crowd.

As such, he will be demonized by those "Progressives" who seek to destroy anyone who is not in their camp. Lifetime affiliations and lives of service mean nothing to them.

I think Hauser, in his time working for the City of Arcata, came to see the stark contrast, and came to despise those destructive charlatans, and even to speak out about it ever so slightly. Ever since then he has been a target.

The funny thing is, I believe you will find that those real Democrats, the old-school Democrats and the Republicans locally are much closer together in their values and beliefs than anyone has yet acknowledged. But it is manifesting itself in support. Harbor Commissioner is a non-partisan position. as is Supervisor, and most of the local elected positions. I would HOPE that there would be bi-partisan support.

That's the way it once was, back in the days when no one knew or asked whether you had an R or a D after your name, a time before we became so polarized, a time when a legislator was also a Statesman (as I believe Hauser was) and when they still made decisions based on what was best overall, not just by party line.

Hauser still represents the can-do spirit. The "Progressives" and sadly, Wilson, do not.
