$600 Stimulus checks...

“You’re getting $600. What can you do with that? Not to be ungrateful or anything. But maybe it pays down a bill, but it doesn’t pay down every bill every month.

Barack’s approach is that the short-term quick fix kinda stuff sounds good. And it may even feel good that first month when you get that check. And then you go out and you buy a pair of earrings.”

  3. wasnt it GWB who approved the first stimulus checks of $600 last year? funny how that gets ignored here;)

intellectual dishonesty seems rampant in the right wing these days....

    ReplyDelete
  4. Au contraire, ex, it is Bush's "Stimulus" checks we are talking about here.

You won't find me defending that stupid move. But I'll bet you defend Barney Frank.

    ReplyDelete
  5. ill defend barney's right to be gay....thats about it though....

back to intellectual honesty: if we are talking about bush's plan, why is the following qoute in your post? "Barack’s approach is that the short-term quick fix kinda stuff sounds good. And it may even feel good that first month when you get that check."

calling it barack's approach is totally misleading if you are talking about bush's approach...

    ReplyDelete
  6. ah, because it is the same approach as the new"messiah's"

Wasn't it Michelle Obama that said under her husbands plan us regular folks will get between 8 and 13 dollars per week? Do the math - at 13$ ex that comes to 676!

    ReplyDelete
  7. i could use a $13 a week tax cut. im not gonna argue that......

im saying that you need to acknowledge who approved the $600 stimulus program last year...being in denial doesnt help anyone...

    ReplyDelete
  8. M'kay, ex, from the top - the quote is in the post because MICHELLE OBAMA said it. SHE says "Barack’s approach is that the short-term quick fix kinda stuff sounds good. And it may even feel good that first month when you get that check." SHE was talking about BUSH"S "Stimulus." IF she was right then, is she right now? Never mind, they're making sure YOU never get another check. They're going to be giving it to the govt.

All of you who are so into having everyone pay MORE taxes = how many of your refused your $600 check? How many donated it back into the treasury? Think Mr. Patriotic Biden did?

    ReplyDelete
  9. rose,
i happen to believe that she is right about the checks. they only serve to make people "feel" good for the moment. especially when people go buy earrings with them. i totally agree with her. they kinda sound good, but dont do much.

i much prefer the tax cuts they are proposing for middle and lower income earners such as myself.

ok, here is where i am confused, are you angry that michelle dare question the almighty one bush and his plan? are you saying that you agree with the $600 checks as a better alternative to obama's? or what in the world are you saying?

is this just another cheerleading session? go GWB go...shish boom ba....republican republican republican, wa wa wa....rose, we KNOW which team you like!!!!!!!have a conversation like a human being for god's sake.....

  11. 2:44,
is that the standard comment when your ideas are proven wrong? if you think im wrong, tell me why. dont be a little baby about it...

or are you just shocked that someone would question "the great one" GWB on this site? i voted for him, im allowed to question him....

  12. PLEASE get your medication refilled!

I don't think the republicans want you back.

  13. Rose, reading some of your stuff since Obama was elected further convinces me that we really, really, really, need to get out of this two party=one party monopoly which we have here. And I am amused a bit that you get a dose of amnesia when it comes to remembering very similar acts taken by Bush.So we're stuck with Obama, don't blame me.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 2:59,
why comment if you cant stick to the issue? no one has ANY idea where you stand on the checks that GWB gave out.....dont be shy, tell us what you think....if you have the guts, which i doubt......

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ex, it is what you stated, the questions you asked and the rah rah remarks you made that caused me to believe you weren't all there.
I quit supporting Bush 2 years ago. I don't support Obama but you won't find me acting like a lunatic over it either.
    D.

    ReplyDelete
  16. 3:30,
i didnt ask, who you "support". i asked where you stood on the checks. why is it like pulling teeth trying to discuss real issues here?

    ReplyDelete
  17. O.K let's make this simple. When Bush gave out the $600 checks-stupid. When Obama promises $600 checks-stupid. Michelle Obama acting like it's a great idea NOW- priceless.

    ReplyDelete
  18. lunatic,
the new plan promises TAX CUTS, not checks.....i know that not many people in Humboldt Co work, so i will explain this very slowly so that the people in fortuna and mckinleyville can understand. when someone earns a LEGAL paycheck, uncle sam takes some out for it's operating expenses(occupying iraq ain't cheap). the new plan takes $8-$13 less in taxes from people's paycheks...with me so far?.....now you will hear people say that this money will go to people who dont work and dont pay taxes. that is all lies. if a person makes under $4000, there is no obligation to file tax returns with the IRS.

by the way, tax refunds that exceed federal withholdings is nothing new. ive gotten larger refunds than ive had withheld many times. one year, i had NO taxes witheld and walked away with over $3000 in refunds....obama didnt start this practice, dont buy the hype....

    ReplyDelete
  19. Rose said...
    "Yeah. What HE said!"

rose, is that why they refer to rush's fans as dittoheads? you still havent given your opinion on the tax cuts....

    ReplyDelete
  20. Okay Ex here is what I think. Obama should expand the Bush tax credits by thousands to each TAXPAYER.
Forget putting this country over a Trillion dollars more in debt with some ridiculous so-called "stimulus package". Give the money to the people who will spend it not hoard it or use it to expand special interest political strongholds.
BTY could you please share with me Obama's dollar amount he is giving to anyone and everyone who lives in the land of the.........well, whatever it is we are now, and makes less then 200k a year.

  23. First of all, exrepublican, you can't possibly be an EX one you are so misguided. Second, your "let me talk to you slowly" elite cr*p is tired. 24. BTY Ex I don't lie. Usually people who like to accuse others are the guilty ones.
    D.

    ReplyDelete
  25. 4:29,
if you dont lie, why did you mention a program that doesnt exist and then ask me how much money will be given out? id call that a white lie, at least....intellectual honesty, it wasnt...

    ReplyDelete
  26. lunatic,
please tell me HOW i am misguided....or dont you have the brains? or is it lack of guts?

i could care less what radio you listen to. i could care less if i am republican enough for you. to tell you the truth, the republicans these days are looking like little scared wimps who need their mommies to comfort them. im a working man and dont really want to be associated with spoiled little rich boys anymore.

as far as the stock market goes, is anyone happy about it? the market was overvalued, and was bound to crash. luckily, in late 2008 i didnt have a dime tied up in the market, so im not too worried about it. ive never been much of a gambler anyways.....i tend to invest much more conservatively than the market allows. seeing the fluctuations that were occurring over the last year, it seemed more like las vegas than the NYSE.....

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have a favor to ask exrepublican. Could you become an exblogger soon? How about by 1800? Your ideas and thoughts are truly lame.

  30. 4:52,
first of all, i dont see ghosts in the mirror, no........second of all, thank you for saying that i appear to be perfect. thats quite a compliment. thats the reason i dont need tattoos or piercings or viagra, i was born with a perfect body.

but to make things clear, i dont think an omnipotent ghost in the sky exists, sorry. if you need that crutch, thats fine. i dont beleive in ghosts, angels, magic, unicorns, gods, goddesses, mythology, astrology, tarot cards or any of that supernatural BS....

  31. I can't stand Barney Frank too. But your "everything Obama is bad" is getting kind of fanatical. GW has left a mess out of the White House, and it won't be fixed right away. I am also against the bailout, but Obama is at least trying to do something.

  32. Rose, who was the jerk who used to argue non stop a while back and always got butt-hurt when everyone called him on his crapola? Could this x-rep be a new incarnation? I only ask because trying to follow this x=persons non-logic is so painful. Like a bad dream.

  33. Not sure 9:37,but the think X is that nice lady Carol's abusive husband.

  34. What I am saying softball is that you don't fucking rush a giant spending spree through.

No thinking person can possibly argue that this is a good thing, dump it all in the hopper and see what comes out on the end, OH MY GOD THE SKY IS FALLING WE HAVE TO VOTE ON THIS RIGHT NOW RIGHT NOW RIGHT NOW WITHOUT READING IT, NO NO NO YOU CANNOT READ IT, MY GOD IF YOU STOP TO READ IT THE SKY WILL FALL ON YOUR STUPID HEAD.

If you do not know what is in it - HOW can you VOTE FOR IT?

For all you know, there's a provision in there to pour a couple billion down the toilet and flush it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Let me try to put it another way.

Most people I know put more thought into buying a CAR than is being put into whether or not to SPEND multiple TRILLIONS of dollars OVER and ABOVE the already bloated REGULAR budget, over and above the already insane bailout...

Don't you, Richard? You, ex? Don't you go out and buy Road&Track and Motor Trend and Consumer Reports before you buy a car? Don't you look into it?

    I do.

Any over-the-phone boiler-room salesman who tells you you have to sign right here right now, immediately or lose out - you'd hang up on 'em, wouldn't you?

"Cause you'd KNOW they were lying to you and scamming you.

"Cause ya ain't stupid. (At least I'm HOPIN'....)

But the people you have put in Congress (YES YOU MIKE THOMPSON! BARBARA BOXER! DIANNE FEINSTEIN!) aren't even THAT smart.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey samoasoftball, it's Michelle Ma Belle who is being negative here, not Rose. Did you read the quote?

  37. Rose wrote,"OH MY GOD THE SKY IS FALLING WE HAVE TO VOTE ON THIS RIGHT NOW RIGHT NOW RIGHT NOW WITHOUT READING IT, NO NO NO YOU CANNOT READ IT, MY GOD IF YOU STOP TO READ IT THE SKY WILL FALL ON YOUR STUPID HEAD."

I don't remember you chirping as loudly about the passing of the PATRIOT ACT,which was passed with much less of looking into and investigating, which many vote yeser's on it openly admitting they never even read the whole damn thing, and which has been nothing but a huge taxpayer burden, upon many other atrocious results stemming from it.Obama is just trying to please neocons by proving he can be like Bush,at look what he gets for doing so.

    ReplyDelete
  38. For Christ's sake man don't confuse poor Richard with facts,he's a HCDCC member and a union man. They don't roll that way. He thinks Bush is the reason he doesn't have a job.

  39. rose,
bush RUSHED the $700 billion bailout plan...i didnt hear a peep out of you...
bush RUSHED spending TRILLIONS of dollars in iraq....i heard you CHEER the spending...

if you can remember just 3 months ago, bush went on TV and said that if he didnt get $700 ASAP, the entire economy would crumble.
if you can remember back to 2002, bush said that if he didnt get billions to invade iraq, that we would be ATTACKED!!!

you have NO room to attack spending after bush was on a spending spree for 8 years...dont you get it? you sound like a complete hypocrate or a complete liar. either way, its not good....

    ReplyDelete
  40. 9:37 and 9:40,
this is about the stimulus checks that GWB gave out, not about your gay love for me. im not here to meet people or even agree with them. im hear to comment on the checks that GWB gave out last year for $600....talking to me or about me will NOT increase your chances of getting in my pants unless you are female......

    ReplyDelete
  41. So, ex, Bush's spending was BAD, Obama was about CHANGE, and his answer is to double or triple down on the spending and rush it through without giving ANYONE the time to read it, with handwritten additions and changes scribbled in the margin, the House votes on it without giving the legally required 48 hours to READ THE DAMN THING and you are ok with that.

I get it. I know you are. Good for you. Don't think about the fact that you yourself would be livid if you were asked to sign any document without being allowed to see what you were signing away.

    Don't think about that, m;kay.

Just go on pretending that they are the smartest most gifted most intelligent people the world has ever seen and by virtue of the magic powers vested in them by believers like you they could not possibly be making a mistake, flying by the seat of their pants or behaving like lemmings.

At least now we know the caliber of people you think are qualified to vote for. Good thing you switched parties. You're where you belong.

  42. ... I. Obama claimed a new moral high ground, and the media seconded that. But nothing in his career—his failed congressional race, the divorce disclosures of his two Senate primary and general rivals, Rezko, Wright, Blago advisor, Ayers, etc.—had ever suggested he had on a single occasion challenged prevailing norms in efforts to raise the ethical bar....

...Instead he was allowed to blather on about heaven on earth, while he was by needs governing from the corrupt cesspool of DC lawyers and lobbyists. So we got the worst of both worlds: the most exalted ethical rhetoric ever, and the greatest ethical lapses of any incipient administration in memory. Over 10 lobbyists now appointed. Consider further: Richardson (nuff said), Holder (helped to pardon a most wanted fugitive), Lynn (Raytheon lobbyist now at Defense), Killefer (sloppy taxes; she’s gone), Geithner (tax dodger), Daschle (would have been a tax felon had he been one of us), Rangel (blank check both to write and break our tax laws), Dodd and Frank (exemptions for ethical lapses at the eye of the financial storm)....
    Hope He Can Change

He won't He is a textbook case in how to fool large numbers of people.

    ReplyDelete
  43. "his answer is to double or triple down on the spending"

can you do simple math? bush spent $8.2 TRILLION in bailouts and another TRILLION in iraq and another TRILLION on social programs/foreign aid. thats $10.2 TRILLION us dollars....in order for obama to double down, he would have to spend $20.4 TRILLION us dollars...in order to triple down, he would have to spend 30.6 TRILLION dollars......

i voted for bush and can admit that he overspent. i voted for obama and will admit if he does too, but I will wait and see if he actually does first!!

remember, this thread is about GWB's $600 stimulus checks, which you have been silent on. rose, are you saying that obamas wife is right or wrong? are the checks helpful, or just "feel-good"? or do you just wanna keep talkin sports? i already know which team you like.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Bush blew it when he didn't push to make the tax cuts permanent when he had the majority.

When the Dems took over majority, things went downhill rapidly. Bush gave in on that front because he was focused on keeping us safe, (refrain from expletive). The influences of Barney Frank and ACORN are documented and clear, as are both McCain and Bush's warnings.

I'll go into the bailout later, but for now, know this, the "Stimulus" checks were a bad, stupid idea when Bush did it, and they are a bad stupid abominable idea now PARTICULARLY the way it is all coming down, ALL IN A BIG RUSH. NO TIME FOR THOUGHT, NO TIME FOR ANALYSIS, CHICKENS WITH THIER HEADS CUT OFF RUNNING AMUCK.

These people are a disgrace to our country. They are a disgrace to the schools they attended. They are a blight on the human race. Period.

i do agree with you that bush is a disgrace to the country, to his schools and is a blight on the human race. he blew the chance he had to be a decent pres...

  46. rose,
funny how you mention bush keeping us safe when he watched over 3000 americans get killed on 9/11 and then managed to send another 4000 to their graves.....

    ReplyDelete
  47. Well Obama may satisfy Rose and start to claim that the stimulus package is needed to keep America safe from the terrorists. It worked for Bush in regards to the PATRIOT ACT,and the need for a Department of Homeland Security.Rose you can admit that you do realize that that act was passed with members of both the House and Senate claiming to not read through all of it.
If W.hadn't spent so much time "keeping us safe",maybe he would've opted to not hire a former dog kennel association president to run FEMA.Would you say that hiring Brownie, and giving him nice his salary were money well spent?
But yes,Obama is trying hard to emulate W.in some ways, but he's got some work to do still.

    ReplyDelete
  49. mresquan. Obama hasn't got a CLUE what it means to keep us safe. Remember he bbqs with people who want to kill Americans.

    ReplyDelete
  50. rose,
if you want to stay safe, i would encourage you to buy a handgun and take a self defense course. relying on your government to keep you safe has never worked, no matter who the president is. look how many americans died on bush's watch.

also, ive discovered the main difference between rose and i. while i am out WORKING a job, supporting a family, being a productive member of society, paying taxes, so on and so on, rose sits home and swoons over her prettyboy DA all day. reading over this thread it is obvious that rose is CLUELESS about the economy or the workings of government. to her, its all about cheerleading. so heres my suggestion, you stick to what you are good at, baking cookies, folding laundry, watching soap operas, dreaming of pauli, cheerleading for republicans, railing against workers and ill keep doing my thing of working a JOB, taking care of a family, maintaining my house, watching for crime in the neighborhood, participating in local youth sports. just remember that we arent all lucky enough to be elitist like you when you rail against working people. we arent all lukcky enough to sit at home all day and dream of the DA.

i just find it hard to swallow your story when you dont work, sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  51. rose,
the fact that you are pissed off about tax cuts, and wont even address them is SHAMEFUL. do you have ANY clue what republicans are supposed to stand for, or is this just a game to you?

    ReplyDelete
  52. And Rose hasn't addressed if whether or not "Brownie" was money well spent as FEMA director. You remember "Heck of job,Brownie",the guy who's job it weas to assist in keeping Katrina victims from catastrophy?
And do really think that it was a good idea for W. to spend a record amount of time on vacation amid the first year of his term when the White House is given repeated warnings of a terrorist attack?
I mean,I agree that the opportunity to keep us safe was certainly there, but our murdering vultures who run the place saw that an attack,so ergo silence and look the other way jargon were necessary in order to pump up wars and satisfy the banker buddies, and contractors who needed the profits.

  53. You're right, ex. I am extremely LUCKY to be able to stay home and raise my 4 kids. Leaving my job was a tough decision, made because leaving them in daycare til 6:30 every day wasn't exactly a good life for them. It is a gift, for which I am grateful every day. It means some sacrifices, certainly, but it is well worth it.

As for you and your misogyny, there's not much to be said. You clearly have issues. No doubt you ranted about Sarah Palin and how she SHOULD stay home with her kids, and now you deride me for staying home with mine.

I prefer that the discussion stay on point and not revert to personal attacks like the one I just made about you and your issues.

But if you were any of the things you profess to be, the passing of this bill, without a single person who voted on it taking the time to read it would infuriate you. As it does any thinking person who isn't blinded by politics.

Happy Valentines Day. This February 14th (Year One, Day 26 in The Golden Age of Obama)

    ReplyDelete
  54. rose,
i dont fault you for staying at home with your kids. thats great. im glad that my wife was able to do the same thing. i fault you for being clueless about economics and not caring for the working person. its pretty funny that you cant address the tax cuts.

oh, and i fault you for being a cheerleader who cant think for herself, too...

    ReplyDelete
  55. Ex, maybe some day we can debate the finer points of tax reform and go into great and amazing detail, and bore the shit out of everyone who reads here. Maybe I should start a different blog for those matters (NOT)... bu not today.

Thought you might find this amusing, however:
    BARACK'S PROMISE:
I’ll also institute an absolute gift ban so that no registered lobbyist can curry favor with members of my administration based on how much they can spend on a fancy dinner. I’ll make our government open and transparent so that anyone can ensure that our business is the people’s business. Justice Louis Brandeis once said “Sunlight is the greatest disinfectant,” and as president I am going to make it impossible for congressmen or lobbyists to slip pork barrel projects or corporate welfare into laws when no one’s looking because when I’m president meetings where laws are written will be more open to the public… no more secrecy, that’s a commitment I make to you as president. No more secrecy!
And, when there’s a bill that ends up on my desk as president, you the public will have five days to look on-line and find out what’s in it before I sign it so that you know what your government’s doing. When there are meetings between lobbyists and a government agency we’ll put as many as pos… as many of those meetings as possible on-line for every American to watch. When there’s a tax bill being debated in Congress you will now the names of the corporations that would benefit and how much money they would get. And we will put every corporate tax break and every pork barrel project on-line for every American to see, you will know who asked for them and you can decide whether your representative is actually representing you!

Now you tell me ex, that this man is not a fucking liar.

    ReplyDelete
  56. rose,
why did you change the subject AGAIN? we are 58 comments into the thread and you have refused to talk about your own post......why did you bring up the $13 a week TAX CUT and GWB's $600 welfare check if you werent willing to discuss them?

is it because you have no conservative values, only cheerleading skills?

god, i wish i could sit home all day eating bon bons and swooning over the hunky DA and new pres.....i found it funny that when mentioning Valentines Day, you talked about Obama!!!! if my wife had mentioned a politician in the same sentence as our special day together, i would have been saddened.....i sincerely hope that you paid more attention to your hubby yesterday than you did your boy pauli and obama....

  60. Here's your new World: Better to owe than to save. ...we are seeing the most marked redistribution of wealth in our recent history. The erosion of home equity and, especially, the 20-30% decline in 401(k)s— followed by nearly $1 trillion in additional entitlement spending (“stimulus”)— mean essentially that much of the capital in the hands of those who owned property and had stocks and mutual funds was destroyed and will be recreated by transferring monies to others. How odd that the printing of billions of new paper dollars to spread he wealth is offset by the virtual destruction of billions of old paper dollars in savings and home equity. Maybe that will slow inflation (e.g., some of us figuratively had money burned up at about the same amount that more was printed afresh). In any case, we live in the age of the debtor—low interest, soon to be high inflation, all sorts of plans to alleviate debt, and government transfers favoring those who owe rather than those who saved.
