And so it begins.

You thought you had a break from politics Think again. The demonization of Frank Jager has already begun on "heraldo." All the dirty work will come from that source. "oooh, he was against an inquest on the Cheri Moore case...he supports killing children...he's 'dying' to get into office...and...ooooh, he was in office with Nancy Fleming"

Did you know, we now have a new, virulently partisan political party. The challenger, George Clark is not running for the people of Eureka, nor to serve the greater community. No. He is running to solidify the "progressive" power base. Speaking to his fellow "progressives," through Salzman's listserve, Chris Kerrigan has this to say for Clark:

We have come a long way in the last eight years and with the addition of Council Member Larry Glass we are now making great progress. Eureka, the county seat, is a classic bellwether city, and as you have probably heard, as Eureka goes, often so goes Humboldt County.

It is vital that we keep this forward momentum going in our community.

We must unite as progressives behind a candidate, and ensure that the progressive tradition, started with my election to the Eureka City Council eight years ago, continues.

In Solidarity,
Chris Kerrigan

One to watch. Let's see what "forward momentum" the "progressives" advocate.

  1. OMG!! Not another member of the usual suspects seeking public office. How dare they try to get a progressive majority on the council! Everyone knows that the only cabal who has a right to dominate the city council is the developers! Isn't there a law or something?

  2. Seems to be mostly shit posts from the local crazy people who live off government funding.

Whatever they want, you don't, they just want another tit to saddle up next too and suck dry.

    Description:

The goal of the Take Back Red California partnership is to share the resources -- volunteers and money -- of blue Bay Area counties with red counties and jurisdictions. Our purpose is to win elections. We will NOT allow California to become a "swing state."

Doesn't soon very middle of the road to me.

  4. Yep. It seems the Salzman group came to Humboldt County figuring the stupid locals would be easy pushovers.

If they can get enough people in office here, they can pass precedent setting policies that can then be used elsewhere. Pay attention to their own words. "As Eureka goes, so goes..."

Kerrigan, who was once a real person, turned to Salzman because he wanted to get re-elected, and didn't have faith in himself.

Look closely, you'll see the brightness is gone. One they turn to the dark side, they've changed forever.

    Too bad, really.

  5. Rose, your post makes no sense- You criticize Heraldo for "throwing Jager under the bus" but then virtually do the same to Clark.

Basically proves that your argument is entirely based on your politics, nothing else. It also continues to prove that you are completely obsessed with Heraldo and his/her opinion.

    Bravo!

  6. "Once they turn to the dark side, they've changed forever."

Not to question your Star Wars metaphor, but isn't the young rebel Kerrigan a long way from Darth Vader conversion?
Maybe it's my liberal upbringing, but I always thought of Republicans (Dick Cheney for example) as being the ones on the Dark Side.

  7. Who ran Kerrigan's first campaign? That was a work of art. Connie Miller never saw it coming.

    Absolute blowout!

Not to completely turn this into a Star Wars nerd-fest, but you really can't call Kerrigan a rebel, nor was Ankin a rebel. Ankin was mainstream until shit hit the fan,and became "Darth Vader" then Luke was the rebel.

Your main fault is thinking that "Republicans" are on the dark side. As I doubt you are thinking Yin-Yang styles, thinking someone is completely evil because of who they vote for is quite childish.

  9. No, no. It's totally Lord of the Rings. Frodo is Jeff Leonard.

  10. What "demonization". Heraldo's blog has many opinions. Most of them Heraldo doesn't respond back to at all. Here's a quote from one Heraldo blogger that sounds very factual and complementary. Are any of the facts mentioned not true?:

"Frank Jager is a good family man, conservative Republican, Roman Catholic Eagle Scout. He held this council seat in the 90's and was re-elected without opposition before becoming county Coroner."

  11. Heraldo, just like so much on your blog, posting anon.

  12. THese are non partisan positions. Running should be a matter of dedication to that principal and the common good of the community. Anyone running for any other reason is an ASSHOLE,PERIOD! There should be no side only right and wrong and total compassion for the individual. Kerrigan has failed at that completely. Eurekas other council members including Glass are doing a good job. Anyone questionong a man like Jager's motives is despicable.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Jager is extremely well-liked, and trying to smear him may finally be the thing that backfires on these creeps.

You're right. These are non-partisan positions, and it should be about serving the people of the city NOT about advancing a political agenda (Sorry about that choice of words, Hank!)

I don't know who this George Clark guy is, he may well be a great guy, BUT if he chooses to go down this path, not a good sign.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Sounds like you've already decided that he's gone down "this path"

Which means that you don't stand next to any of Rose's foes

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hmmm.
Clue #1, out of the chute, heraldo
    Clue #2, the smears begin
Clue #3, Kerrigan uses Salzman's listserve
Clue #4, Kerrigan's choice of words.

Somehow I don't think the guy is going to announce that he rejects the "progressive" machine, and denounces Salzman and Kerrigan at his press conference.

Why would Jager be a threat to these guys. He's never struck me as particularly partisan.

  16. Chris Kerrigan said, "and ensure that the progressive tradition, started with my election to the Eureka City Council eight years ago, continues.".

I know little about this Clark fellow, but I can think of two things that seem to have started with the "progressives" on the Eureka City Council that I'm not happy about:

Mandatory Garbage Collection and the Boardwalk Smoking Ban, as if most of you couldn't guess.

Those are just two that come to mind that I'm pretty sure they originated with Kerrigan and Glass, the garbage thing probably starting before Glass' term. Can anyone come up with any other examples of progressive accomplishments in Eureka? Maybe I'm missing some of the good stuff?

I'm not happy with either of those two examples of "progressive tradition". Sure, the rest of the council voted for them, but I'm pretty sure they started with progressives.

Bad things are happening in Eureka as a result of progressives, but I'll try and keep an open mind on Clark.

    ReplyDelete
  17. That's 'cause they're not PROgressive, Fred. They are REgressive.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think Rose is more politically biased than Heraldo

    ReplyDelete
  19. What positive things have the conservatives on the council done?Seems to me that both sides have essentially worked to simply offset one another.Kerrigan has at least tried to work to ensure a more open process in regards to the Marina Center project, and one could argue that he spearheaded the move for more open debate in regards to Calpine. He and Larry have also been the most vocal against the city continuing to dump money into a Waterfront Drive extension.Kerrigan also stood alone in supporting a same sex marriage resolution which should cater to your libertarian beliefs,Fred. And both Kerrigan and Glass have been most critical of the recent budget proposals.

  20. George Clark is a good guy and Frank Jager is a good guy. Too bad they both can't be on the ECC.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I know George and think that he is a very nice guy. I know Frank and think he is also a very nice guy. What I am concerned with regarding this election is that I am tired of the so called “progressive” rhetoric which is not anyway progressive but is destructive. What troubles me is that George is being “run” by Chris whom I no longer respect at all and in fact have started to despise. I don’t like the sneaky politics that he represents nor his attachment to the likes of Salzman (an admitted liar and forger.) So with George hitching his star to Kerrigan and the likes, I simply am disappointed with George about this. Maybe he can distance himself and cut these bad people from his campaign. Then again, maybe not. But it is a voting issue for me and will be the decision between he and Frank for my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The only thing you guys seem to have on the "progressives" is the assumed affiliation with Salzman. And if he hadn't been caught sending fake letters, then you'd virtually have no talking points at all.

Get a new routine. Maybe one that involves the issues. No more of this recycled garbage-

    ReplyDelete
  23. I am the flip side, 8:09. I could no longer tolerate the lies and spin perpetrated by the Salzman/heraldo side.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yes, 10:39, turn away, pretend you do not see. That is what you want.

    Not gonna happen.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Please tell me what Kerrigan has done wrong on the issues during his campaign.

And please don't tell me that he has done nothing. That gets tired-

    ReplyDelete
  26. What you ignore from Kerrigan is when he first ran a lot of us thought he was just a nice kid and couldn’t do any harm and might even be refreshing. During his last election he threw in with the dark side and allowed shit to happen because he was captivated by the likes of Salzman and his crew. Dark politics and lies. Chris then changed and changed big. He started referring to the public as stupid and that they would not find out about his shady politics until after the election. That is when I distanced myself from him and those he surrounded himself with. Of all the destructiveness of these so called “progressives” leading that young man into the dark was really really despicable. Now I doubt everything that comes out of his mouth because I no longer believe in anything he says. What a damn shame, but alas predictable - Chris made some very bad choices and now will have to live with them. I will never support him again for anything and for that I am disappointed...disappointed in him and disappointed with the people that he has decided to hang with.

And if you really want to hear an ear full, speak with Leo Sears who used to be an ardent supported of Chris' but not anymore. Ask him why and you will really get an eyeopener.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I asked about what he has done wrong regarding the issues-

please respond with the issues rather than the same dull redric

    ReplyDelete
  28. This is the issue and if you don't see it you are the one spewing the same old "rhetoric!" (perhaps you need a dictionary while you blog.)

    ReplyDelete
  29. because there is no issues, atleast ones that you can identify

you got a problem with my spellchecker, dipshit? take it up with him-

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't have a problem with your spellchecker except to say he is an uneducated moron who is close minded and too lazy to hit the spell check button.

The issues are integrity and not selling out your soul. The issues are true democratic principles and not simply to win at all costs. You write like a mindless dweeb who knows nothing except the what you are told or paid to blog. Now go back to the other blogs to spew your “rhetoric.” Perhaps if you had an education, you would not need a spell checker but would recognize how to correctly spell the word. Talk about a lazy sob.....

    ReplyDelete
  31. you state the same sorry old nonsense-

you can't name a single issue that the common voter would recognize.

No wonder your candidates all failed in the last election.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Newsflash A-hole. My candidate didn't lose in the last election.

    ReplyDelete
  33. All issues take care of themselves if you have basic integrity, honesty and a desire to serve the public.

That's the fundamental thing missing in the "progreesive" agenda - and yes, it is a failing of the other side.

But only as long as the easy rhetoric carries the day, and reporters are bored with the shenenaigans

    ReplyDelete
  34. you still haven't named an issue that the common voter would recognize

and I'm guessing that your candidate also didn't technically win either

    ReplyDelete
  35. You going to give Rose shit for progressive wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  36. sorry spelling progressive wrong

    ReplyDelete
  37. One issue that the "common" (how lowly of you) voter would recognize...

Honesty and Integrity...but those are two issues.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Do you assume that some candidates are honest and others are not? You assume, or do you know?

It really comes down to each individual issue, and who represents you best.

If absolute honesty is your sticking point, better stay away from politics. I doubt anyone fits that exact mold.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't assume a damn thing. You asked for two issues that you called common people are interested in and I answered. Honesty and Integrity.

And yes there are a few people in politics who are honest and have integrity. Too few however because of folks who drive out those who are honest and have integrity - drive them out with lies that they spread on the blogs. And it is a shame, telling lies gets you places and telling the truth gets you condemned.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Honesty and integrety trumps everything. Nice guy or asshole can be both or neither. Take Pat Higgins. A very nice fellow who is without a clue and will most likely cause nothing but headaches.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ya know, I was having such a nice day and then I read those comments from that snarky jerk on the City Council.

Everyone knows his great grandmother was Hitler's half sister --- Guess that apple did not fall from the tree.

Can the rest of us please get rid of these blood sucking socialists????

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well, this is certainly a bellweather election.

Two legit candidates, though one seems bought and paid for by the orks, if one reads the tea leaves on Heraldo's blog correctly...

George is a good guy, but trying to solve the problems of global warming and whorl'd peas (my all time fave bumper sticker) seem a bit much for a city council member...

Frank has a community history of thirty plus years, despite the attempted smears of relocated ssi disability hippies like Bill "humboldthighboltage" and homeless advocate Kateascot...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Rose and I probably don't agree on much except that if she is an old school republican she probably wants to see a fiscally responsible city government, not the horseshit that we have now. I am a libertarian socialist, which means small government socialist to you wingnuts. I don't like huge deficits and huge bureaucracies any more than you real "conservatives" do.

There were a handful of us who spoke against the huge payraises for Eureka City employees in January. Two million dollars in the hole we are now. Do you think you will get through the next five years without drastically raising taxes? Where were the rest of you when it was time to speak in January?

I give Rose credit. We are almost 180 degrees political opposite but at least she has the hormones to use her name.

    have a peaceful day,
    Bill

    ReplyDelete
  44. Welcome, Bill. I am more Libertarian than you may think - but I don't believe we should be defined by a line on a form we filled out so we could vote.

There are serious issues to be dealt with. Shrinking budgets despite record tax takes are just one of them.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The budgets for actual government services are shrinking. But the budgets for government employee compemsation and benefits and percs are constantly rising.

Tax takes from the point of view of the payer may seem high but tax takes (from the governments point of view) are going to decline significantly this year. The situation is far less rosy than Dave Tyson might let on.

For instance, the city has consistently been underfunding the employees pension fund contributions. This is a tax on the future. Dave Tyson's projections assume that sales tax and property tax revenue will not decline this year. What do you think? Is that a rational assumption?

How do I know this? I attend meetings of the Financial Advisory Board. Talk to Dave Ogden. He is a fiscal conservative.

All of you should too, if you are really concerned.

    have a peaceful day,
    Bill

    ReplyDelete
  46. Pension contributions are regulated by law.
