"I'm flying. This is the best thing that has ever happened," said Ken Miller, a member of the Humboldt Watershed Council, and a longtime opponent of PL, in a phone interview Tuesday. "My god, finally we have a champion who has some power."
Gallegos takes on PL Talking here about Gallegos filing his lawsuit against Pacific Lumber Company, as in other interviews at the time, Miller professed surprise - but later it was revealed that he was heavily involved in drafting the suit itself.

"When we awaken to the potential for determining our destiny, and start fielding strong candidates aggressively, we can increase voter participation. The anti-recall campaign IS just such an organizing opportunity to develop an electoral constituency, a machine, if you will, to get our perspective into the power structure."

  1. cops raise the price of pot, mainly by creating the illusion that they are making a dent in the crop...which in turn brings more growers...which gives the cops more people to bust...which raises the price higher....which brings in more growers...which gives the pigs more people to bust...which raises the price....

  2. Only now - other than CAMP - they are not busting people.

Kevin's piece talks abot the U-Hauls coming in and hauling stuff out of the grow house - and that story is not uncommon. In some cases the U-Hauls arrive the night before a bust.

It's not a victimless crime anymore - the grow houses victimize the landlords, the neighborhoods are suffering with the increased threats... it isn't what people who voted for compassionate use intended.

  3. 10:09, don't pretend that the growers don't love the current state of the law. They can charge street drug prices for their "medicine" and they have a defense if by some mischance they end up in court. Most cops would rather the stuff was legal (the ones I've talked to anyway). But then again, the economy of Humboldt County would collapse without the wads of cash weed brings in. I wonder how many businesses in Humboldt would go belly-up in days without pot money to launder?

  4. 10:09 you are not doing to good a spin job. There are less cops going after weed these days and more weed being grown. And you say the cops are inflating the prices?

And did I mention that very very very very few get prosecuted for growing week in Humboldt County.

It's a joke, or really rather a crime. Many of Gallegos' supporters are raking in the doe and living big on the weed.

I wonder how Rodoni's new challenger feels about weed?

  5. Gallegos was a strong candidate? See the results? Looked good. Wasn't.

Take a lesson. Ken's for them? Run screaming.

  6. Politicians long ago instilled a fear of marijuana in the general population in order to justify a very profitable prohibition. The medical marijuana movement has been corrupted by all the major players: doctors, patients, caregivers & dispensaries.
I'm with Rose. I don't believe the current state of affairs is what Prop. 215 proponents envisioned.

  7. Ken ought to be federally prosecuted.
