Hugo Chavez's PR man

Looks like Mussolini's - I mean HUGO CHAVEZ'S PR man
Michael Shellenberger
is coming to town to speak for Schatz Energy.

Now that's a brilliant PR move.

  1. From the HSU website:

HSU makes no bones about being a progressive school, priding itself on its rural location, outdoor learning opportunities for students, and emphasis on making a positive change in the world. Humboldt State has been recognized by the National Science Foundation as ranking #1 in the nation for public, non-PhD granting institution for Biology/Agriculture, Earth and Ocean Sciences, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences, indicating the University’s emphasis on hands-on, out-of-classroom experiences for students.

Hmm, wonder if Arnold knows about this?

  2. Schellenberger should have an FBI file. He acts like a traitor and I am ashamed at HSU.

    Sincerely,
    A liberal democrat.

  3. Schellenberger should have an FBI file.

I'm sure that he does, as do you and me.

  4. HSU doesn't give out BS in Mathematics, but BA's. So why is the NSF including them in a SCIENCE PROGRAM.

(And why does HSU give out BA not BS for Math?)

  5. This bears looking into-almost as much as Salzman and Schellenberger promoting progressiveness at HSU!

  6. Does Arnold know about this?

  7. Does Schatz know about this and do they really want to be associated with the Venezualan dictator?

  8. Schatz is dead and Chavez is not a dictator nor is he Mussolini. A 6 month PR contract with a government agency three years ago does not make you the leader of that country's current PR man. I'm sure the guy has an FBI file.

BTW I recommend that you all read the "Death of Environmentalism" article that Michael Shellenberger wrote. Although I have some disagreements with it, it is very interesting. Maybe a discussion of that would actually be of value.

Maybe you could actually go and hear what he has to say. You might learn something.

  9. So I suppose you all are going to now protest (and boycott) all those oil companies that have multi-billion dollar contracts with the Chavez government?

  10. 7:20 - I have read "Death of Environmentalism." I do agree with many points but it doesn't detract from my opinion that Shellenberger is a manipulative asshole and his link with Chavez is treasonous.

Talk about conflict of interests: a paid apologists of a dictator of a petrostate to lecture people on "Beyond Environmentalism: Creating a Politics Capable of Dealing with Global Warming and Other Ecological Crises."

    Priceless!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Would it help to send letters of protest to the administration at HSU?

  14. Boy, watch out for that evil Michael Winkler.

  15. I think we are stretching the definitions of treason and dictator here. How was the actions of Shellenberger treasonous? And how is Chavez a dictator.

Please explain without pointing to rightwing conspiracy websites.

Help do what? Stifle academic freedom? Make the talk better attended. The more "controversy" you make out of this the more people are going to want to hear what the man has to say.

  17. You can do something positive. Educate yourself. Go to the Eureka Republican Womens lunch Thur.18th, 11:30 am the Red Lion Inn and listen to the fabulous Holly Swanson, founder of "Green Out" as she exposes the true agenda of the radicals and greens. Then talk go to HSU and tell Shellenberger what you think in a civil manner!

  18. Damn I'm out of town on the 18th.

  19. I'd hardly characterize a site dedicated to outlining human rights violations in Venezuela as a right wing conspiracy site.

I wish my job was to make money off the government.

  22. There's big money in Foundation grants.

If this is who I think it is-*she* is a volunteer. Making money off the govt. would then be grants for historical trains that belong to Humboldt County and belong in Humboldt County.

  25. I need to start writing grants. I need big money.

  26. mrsb814,here's how it works. A.writes a grant and pays buddie B.for a study or monitoring, etc. Then good old B. writes a grant for something else and hires the boy friend of A. to count how many tourists walk by some point on a trail. And it goes on and on. The grants are given out by C. an old college room mate of both A.& B. Bad enough, but whats worse is that true needs such as Law enforcement and disaster relief are most times relegated to needs assesments tests for worth rigjt along with the feel good grants that monopilize the process. Since C. has an agenda and most definatly didn't go to the acadamy C. will devine the needs of A.& B. as most worthy. It happens a thousand times a day across America. We're just about in the "shitter" because of it.
