Kathy Philp chose to retire. She was a "half-time Domestic Violence Investigator, working out of the D.A. Criminal Division in the Courthouse and has been a detective at the District Attorney's Office for 22 years.
Linda Modell was the Office secretary and has "handled fiscal matters at the District Attorney's Office for over 20 years, and managed all of the fiscal needs of the District Attorney's Office such as grants and audits."
Chris Andrews was a Special Agent assigned full-time to the "Northern California Computer Crimes Task Force". He handled digital forensics for Humboldt, Del Norte, and No. Mendocino Counties and was the Macintosh expert for the entire NC3TF Task Force (13 counties).
Truit was a recent Gallegos hire, no? And a former defense attorney?

Well, it will be fun seeing what shows up to replace him.
And wasn't Andrews the computer investigator? No doubt easy shoes to fill.
But do we know WHY any of those individuals have chosen to leave? Any at retirement age? Any getting a promotion? Or are they really dissatified with their boss, as you imply?
ReplyDeleteLosing a new hire is not that surprising; Humboldt Co is not for everyone. Just ask the medical profession. I know of Dr.'s that have left here because the spouse couldn't take the isolation.

Its the stench 8:05, Truitt is leaving after less than 6 weeks and has over 15 + years criminal defense experience.

Modell went over to the Sheriff's same rate of pay and same job, just an honest boss.

got your wish, you lost the computer guy. You also lost a highly respected lawyer ( who lasted 6 weeks, a hard working business manager (Modell) and another investigator.
When is the "media" going to request an interview with this
guy to see how he explains this mess to the public. What are we getting for our money?
To answer your question 2:53, what are we getting for our money....screwed thats it. We get dangerous criminals and meth freaks loose on the street, a dismantled office and no justice. You know that even if Gallegos walked off the job right now and someone else took over it is all so f--kd up over there that it will take years to clean up that mess.

Also, another favor, consider conceding a point once in awhile to your opponents, instead of just ignoring your loss with silence. I think your stock would go up if that was seen once in awhile. -8:05

The "concede a point" comment was a general observation based on my perception of the tone of posted comments. I have yet to see anyone admit they were "wrong", or had changed their mind and agreed with the other side, or concede a point. Except for maybe me, above, for which I get slammed.

ReplyDeleteI have seen plenty of people conceding points when they are actually exchanging real information (as opposed to just political rhetoric by the entrenched who couldn't even change a lite bulb much less their minds.)

ReplyDeleteKathy Philp is of retirement age and left at a reasonable time. Suprised she lasted as long as she did in that office.
Truit ? Don't personally know the man but people I know say he is a good,ethical man and were suprised he took the job under Gallegos. Everyone was sure he wouldn't last but SIX weeks !! That is telling.
Chris Andrews is not of age to retire. And he is taking a job in Minnesota (he nor his wife are from Minnesota). So why was he looking for a new job ? He and his wife love Humboldt County (not all the people) and are well respected with many friends. Why go somewhere you've never been and where you know NOBODY? Do you really think is was because Gag's was soooooo great to work for. And Andrews did speak out against Gag's and Gag's did try to fire him BUT he has peace officer status unlike the DDA's and Gag's cannot fire him for sport, as he did Jackson and Dikeman.
Linda Modelle? More than 20 years at the DA's office. She was the non attorney with the most influence/power/juice and knowledge of the office administrative functions. Why did she leave? The pays the same! I have met Linda Modelle and I think she just can't take working for a sleazy corrupt boss any longer.
The DA's office continues to lose Deputy DA's and Gag's continues to go on vacation, alienate all of law enforcement, and routinely plea bargain away cases.
Crime is out of control in Humboldt County but Gag's and his posse cover it up with pleading everything down to misdomeaner with little or no time in jail. That is just a shell game. Smoke and mirrors. The meth addicts, freaks, tweekers need some time in jail to break the cycle of addiction. Since that is not occurring the cycle of addiction will not be broken and the worst of the addicts will get worse and suffer more from the meth ... and with that comes the violence.
Good work all of you Gallegos supporters.

ReplyDeleteYou can't excuse away the mass exodus by saying they were all about to retire, moved here and didn't like it, or left because they get more money in the private sector.
You can't excuse away the losing of grants by saying Gallegos is weaning the DA's office from 60% of its funding.
You can't excuse Gallegos' piss-poor performance by using phrases like "doing more with less," nor can you blame all his woes on budget cuts. He should be swimming in money with all those unfilled positions. Hundreds of thousands of dollars a year that isn't going out in salaries.
You can't discredit the criticism of him by deeming everything a "political attack."
Not necessarily directed at you 8:05. You may have innocently stumbled into something through no fault of your own.
But this blog is here to counter the lies and spin. To make an attempt to provide you with the proof that belies the fancy PR and spin that you have been fed. It went on too long, and that "mainstream media" you refer to lapped it up and regurgitated it throughout Gallegos' first couple of years. And some continue it to this day.
But the spin doctors can't hide the truth forever, and the truth about Gallegos' incredible mismanagement of that office is pretty much in full public view at this point.
Call it political if you will, but it is Gallegos and his handlers who made it so.

Plagiarism came up this past week while I was away for Christmas. How can I explain to non Humboldt residents Paul Gallegos' actions? Can, or would, a normal thinking citizen think that the district attorney of their county would stoop so low? Twice? And in his own press piece? Humbolt County truly is an unusual place.
We need to remember the plagerism, which is lying/dishonesty! Remember the surfing accident when he was supposed to be home sick, which is also lying ! Remember the sweetheart deals he gives to his supporters and friends.
I do appreciate your efforts Rose. And I'm sure that several others that read but don't comment do to. I hope you and your family have a happy happy new year.

I just read in today's (12/31/06) T/S that Gallegos says crime continues to go down and his office is still suffering from the budget cuts. Like nobody knows that he just can't attract any lawyers to fill the positions! His statments to the T/S are nothing short of lies.

ReplyDeleteThe attorneys that Paul has hired have been rejects who haven't been able to get or keep a job in other counties or who have been suspended or disbarred. The whackjob above (Richard) has a history of misinforming both on the blogs and in the press. There are a few in that office that stayed too long and now CAN'T FIND ANOTHER JOB IN ANOTHER COUNTY BECAUSE OF THE TAINT FROM WHERE THEY ARE WORKING NOW even though they have been frantically trying to get out.
Reminds me of what my dad used to say...lay down with dogs and get fleas.

that lawyer wanted, but instead is sticking with Humboldt for family reasons. S/He hasn't even
applied elsewhere. Any remaining non-Gallegos hire can also move; the other DA offices know exactly what's happened in Humboldt and are only too happy to snap up the old guard.
Every single non-Gallegos hire who has left is a FELONY deputy in another DA's office, from Shasta to Butte to San Francisco, El Dorado,Santa Cruz, Marin, LA,
except Jackson and Gimle who
chose to stay in Humboldt, and so had to go private. Which they have done with huge success.
Of course, there are few non-Gallegos hires left, which is fantastic. The voters are getting what they deserve. Looks like one more election, and the DA's office could be totally staffed with psychos, dopers, drunks and other riff raff.

ReplyDeleteNewspeople are complicit in what is happening. The newspapers, especially one in particular, buffer Gallegos. All the while, he continues to lose all the experienced employees, child abuse cases and domestic violence cases are neglected, meth is rampant, robberies seem to occur every other day, and most of the defendants are placed on probation and released into the community.
ReplyDeleteNobody will care until it impacts them, and with the current trend, that won't be very long. The meth users are the same people who break into your cars and houses, who neglect and abuse their children and commit unprovoked violent attacks because of their paranoia.
